Do you take off what looks like a little plastic cover on filter first?

Thoroughly rinse out filter with running water before inserting in to the fountain. Although completely harmless, doing this will cleanse the filter of any charcoal dust that may have become loose. After rinsing, insert the filter in your pet fountain and secure it with the black strap provided. It is recommended the filter be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks and more frequently if multiple pets are using the fountain.

These replacement filters measure 2.1 inches x 2.1 inches and fit all Petmate Replendish or Mason style waterers regardless of the gallon size.

Will this Prevent algae growth in pet water?

The filters remove toxins, particles, bad taste and odor. It is recommended the filter be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks and more frequently if multiple pets are using the fountain. To help prevent any algae growth it is recommended to clean your cat fountain effectively once a week and change the water at least once every other day.

Delivery sucks

The box that I was expecting did not arrive. What I found the next day was the box soaking wet and in my lawn inside my gate. It was a rainy day and if I was a delivery

Quick delivery.

We got her from the shelter, but the city just put chlorine in our water and she would not drink the water (we wouldn't either). We bought the PetMate with the filter,

These filters do fit the petmate water dispenser; however, there were no instructions for use on the box or inside it. I seem to remember reading somewhere that

These filters do fit the petmate water dispenser; however, there were no instructions for use on the box or inside it. I seem to remember reading somewhere that filters should be rinsed thoroughly before first use to remove excess dust, but there was nothing about that on or in the package. I did rinse it and a lot of dust came out.
