It doesn't really spin around at a rate that my cats want to play with it. It basically just vibrates because the butterfly stays in place. Maybe this is what it is supposed to do. but the cats are afraid of it.
This item is very small and light weight - maybe more suited to a kitten as it falls over easily. I have taped it to the bottom of a shelf on my adult cat's tower and turn it on from time to time. He's really not very interested after a minute or so. Also takes a battery, so there's that.
Even before I was able to turn it on, getting the base off to insert the battery is very difficult without breaking the tiny plastic pieces that hold the base in place. It says to screw off but it does not. Once on, the butterfly drags on the ground and never lifts up. This does not simulate a real butterfly. My cats just look at it for a minute and either walk away or stand on the butterfly and make the whole thing stop.
My cat enjoyed this for the extremely limited amount of time he was able to play with it. It broke working a couple of days. Not durable. Don’t purchase.
I want to love it, but it’s just not durable. They offer a replacement butterfly but it takes all of one play time for the butterfly to lose at least one of its wings. The snappable feet on the base are easily broken if accidentally stepped on, and the wire holding the butterfly starts drooping so that the butterfly is more scraping the floor than hovering just above it. If everything was just a little more sturdy this would be a great toy, my cat loves the quick fluttering movements, it just doesn’t last long enough to be worth spending the money.
entertained my senior cat. my only negative is it's not really transportable as the metal wire can bend and then the butterfly won't fly the same way.
My kitten batted at this toy one time. Knocked it over and broke it. The wire extension with the butterfly broke off and does not seem repairable
Just opened for Christmas. The butterfly went super fast and both cats just stared at it. Withing a few minutes, it stopped spinning. It just flipped on the floor like a wounded bird. One cat popped it a couple times, it went in a circle a couple times, then back to flopping. We thought maybe it was the battery, changed that. Flipping. We tried moving from hard wood floor to carpet, no difference. The cats seem interested, that flutter sound is great, it just doesn't move enough.
My 6mo old male kitten loved it! He played fiercely with it and did to it what he did to the Palmetto Bug he found in my closet two months ago. Absolutely destroyed it. (But that was a good thing.) It took about 2 hours for it to go from the best toy ever, to a cheap piece of junk. I duct taped the butterfly, minus the plastic body back onto the wire, and it works, but doesn’t hold his attention as well without the realistic antennae.
Cats will play with or watch it for a little bit but quickly grow disinterested.
