Does this door require the microchip on exit and entry or just entry?

Answer by ChewyOct 24, 2019
Your pet will need the microchip to enter or exit through the cat door.

Does the brand 'Homeaway' for microchipping work with your door?

Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2019
PetSafe microchip-enabled products will only work if your cat has been fitted with a microchip. You will find your pet’s microchip number on your microchip registration form which will have been issued to you by your veterinarian. Please note that microchip numbers with 10 digits, letters, and those starting with 977xxxxxxxxxxxx and 98514xxxxxxxxxx are not currently compatible with our microchip-enabled products.

Can you disable the lock? The microchip doesn’t always work and my cats are getting locked out

Answer by ChewyNov 27, 2019
This door features a 4-way manual lock which allows you to decide when your cat can enter and leave.

Can you please tell me the size of the actual flap that opens, is it one size for all cats, we have one large cat of about 20 pounds and one smaller cat of 14 pounds . Also this is a thicker outside door, what is the maximum thickness without having to but an extra tunnel, thank you

Answer by ChewyMay 16, 2019
The flap is 5.7 inches by 5.3 inches, and it's suggested that the pet's shoulders do not exceed 5.9 inches in order to pass through. The total thickness is 4.8 inches, the tunnel itself is 2.8 inches.

Before buying this Microchip Entry Cat Door my two cats were able to get in and out freely using a flap type door. Unfortunately it was also easy for stray cats, dogs and the occasional raccoon to come inside the house and forage for food. ( It was Christmas time when the raccoon made it's way down to the basement and found the Hershey kisses, unwrapped them from their foil, and ate about ten or so before I discovered him down there and took them away; those were for baking cookies) Now I'm able to sleep soundly at night, knowing that unwanted critters can no longer get in. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the opening and tunnel that they go through is a tad too small; you can tell they're squeezing slowly through it...it would be better if it were about an inch or two bigger all the way around.

Works great, with some caveats

The door was easy to program to my cat's chip, and works well. Installation was mostly not too frustrating, but I do strongly recommend having two people if at all

The door was easy to program to my cat's chip, and works well. Installation was mostly not too frustrating, but I do strongly recommend having two people if at all possible because you do have to send bolts from the outside to precisely screw into the inside portion. The door makes a fairly loud clicking sound when unlocking, which at first startled my cat. He got over it and now doesn't even hesitate, but it may slow down adoption in more skittish cats. It's also on the smaller side for a pet door. My cat is not Maine coon huge, he's a solidly middle of the road sized cat, and he has to lightly squeeze to get through. The way the house is configured, the outside floor level is higher than inside, and I had to add a step to the inside because he couldn't squeeze out while also stepping up, something that was not an issue with his previous door.

To small and scary

I got this in hopes my one out of 5 cats could use this to go to a "safe" room but unfortunately the clicking noise scares her and if it didn't i don't honestly

I got this in hopes my one out of 5 cats could use this to go to a "safe" room but unfortunately the clicking noise scares her and if it didn't i don't honestly think she'd fit in it. I'm going to donate it to my shelter.

No medium size

You need to make a medium size for pets that fall between small & large. Your size variance is ridiculously wide.

Works great! Only chip reads one direction fyi

I saw other reviews that this only works for certain chips - I looked mine up before I bought it and both cats had one of the standard types. Kept the packaging

I saw other reviews that this only works for certain chips - I looked mine up before I bought it and both cats had one of the standard types. Kept the packaging just in case I had issues for the first week. Super easy to teach the scanner each chip code. Much less easy to train the cats, I suggest looking up videos on tips like I did. Has been working great for 3 weeks now with no issues like others described, we'll see how long the battery lasts! One less star because this only reads the chip from one side and has mechanical switch on the other side that you set for the 4 way locking. If you need to only let certain cats outside and no other animals in do not buy this. I only needed this to separate different cat foods (prescription and non) so I set it up that the chip read is to get in but they can just push their way out anytime if it is unlocked. If you need chip read from both sides, keep looking. All of my cats are 12 lb or less and fit thru pretty easy. If your 15 lb cat is wide and not long this may not be for them. Door dimensions are provided, do a cardboard cutout to size if you really want to make sure before you buy like I did.
