We have the original older large petsafe Automatic door. We want to replace will the new petsafe app controlled automatic door, will the large fit the same size cut opening in the door as our older one?

How long does the battery last? Is there a low battery indicator? And can the dogs collar get wet?
Answer by ChewyJun 01, 2022
The Electronic SmartKey™ is waterproof. The RFA-67 battery used for this key lasts about 3-6 months on average. The battery life of the D Cell batteries for the Electronic SmartDoor™ is approximately 90 days on average. Please note the life of the batteries may vary depending on how often the pets use the door.

Can I install this door into a wall with an additional kit?
Answer by ChewyDec 14, 2022
This SmartDoor set includes everything needed to install into standard size paneled, wood, metal or PVC doors or walls 1 1/2 - 2 in thick. If installing into thicker walls, we recommend purchasing the Wall Conversion Kit.

Can this be used along with an inground fence?
Answer by ChewyMar 04, 2021
PetSafe does not offer any pet doors that are compatible with the in-ground containment system. However, your pet can wear the containment collar and wear the key needed to unlock the electronic pet door together without an issue.

Good door but needs work

We have had seven of these doors since 2016 and finally gave up on purchasing this model. This was a hard decision because our metal door is cut out to fit this particular model. We have had the same problem every time. Luckily the company has excellent customer service and has helped us out a couple times. Originally I didn't realize I could call them for warranty issues and wish I would have before purchasing five other times. Live and learn. The problem is the plastic hinge that holds on the door snaps from 3 to 6 months after use. We have followed the directions to a tee, have medium sized dogs and still have problems with the hinge breaking in the same place every time. We've tried to replace the hinge and they don't have that option we talked about having a machinist make a metal bracket but it was impossible to get into the door to replace it without damage. We have now upgraded to their new model that has Wi-Fi enabled features, an app and is much more costly but we're hoping for good results. It has a two year warranty so fingers crossed.

Awful Product

I purchased this product for my two labs about 4 years ago, it broke in less than a year. Since then, I have had to purchase two more replacements since the hinges that hold the flap break EVERY time. I would change to a totally different product, but unfortunately have a hole in my wall and cannot find another replacement door that is the same dimensions. I DO NOT recommend this product.

Loud and doesn't last

I bought this door because i wanted my large cat to be able to escape to my bedroom when the younger cat was bothering him and keep the younger cat out of my room. It was hard for my cat who is very skddish to get used to the very loud noise the door makes when locking/unlocking but once he got used to it it was ok. That took about a month. I left for a 10 vacation and had people checking on my cats. They only ever saw the young one and i thought my shy boy was just hiding in the bedroom. In actually he was trapped in there because the door stopped working! Good thing he had water! Unfortunately my rugs are now ruined. :( I wouldn't recommend.

Fun for the dogs

Door broke/stopped working about 2weks after having it. Battery that goes on collar, died, so we purchased new ones and they stopped working as well. My dogs love the door though, just hate we spent so much for this and it not work properly.

Breaks easily

I purchased my house that had a seemingly new one of these in the existing door. About six months into living there the first one broke. I could not find any dog door that was the same size so I reluctantly purchased a second one of these dog doors. I have an elderly dog, normal wear, and it's broken in under two years. The only way to remedy this is to anticipate buying a new dog door every 1-2 years or to buy a totally new back door. The flap cannot be replaced and it is very flimsy where the flap attaches to the frame as that has been what has broken both times.

Not Durable

Had this less than 6 months and my 70 pound lab finally destroyed the hinges on the large door. It’s just not worth the money.

Works just OK

Like the idea of this but can’t seem to get the sensitivity adjusted where it opens when they approach all the time. Sometimes they have to stand at the door and wait for the Click on the inside. From the outside takes even more time. The batteries have fallen out numerous times and luckily I have been able to find them. There must be a better way to hold those batteries in ! For the amount we spent for the door and the tunnel part it should work way better. Whether you install it in the wall or a door it will cost even more to install something else. Kinda stuck with it now ! I will have to order additional batteries I’m sure cuz they will fall off and be lost .

Not for strong dogs

This would be a lovely door for anyone that does not own a husky. We got the door solely to keep the cat in and my dogs have now learned that they can hold the door open for the cat-too smart for their own good. Then we had a suddenlink guy putting in new internet so I locked the door with them outside, a few seconds later they had busted the door open, with enough force they could open it and it will still lock or unlock but it cannot hold them. Overall if you have a small dog or older that will not try to break through and no cat it would be a wonderful idea.

Not for multi-pet houses

We bought this so our dogs could come and go, but not the cats. Spent $200 installing it and even with the sensitivity adjustments The dang thing will trigger open when the dogs are in the other room. Then outgo the cats. Plus it's super noisy when it opens, and my small dog has trouble with the door as it is very heavy.
