Does it need to be programmed into automatic cat door?

This key is designed exclusively for use with the PetSafe 4-Way Locking Microchip Entry Cat Door. There is a programming process for new keys, which involves pressing and holding the button under the battery cover ± 5 seconds until LED is activated (solid red). Then within 60 seconds hold the Microchip Cat Door Key in the tunnel, until it is registered as programmed (latch will briefly unlock and re-lock after about 3 seconds, red LED will go off).

How long will the battery last. Approximate.

The Microchip Cat Door requires four AA batteries which can typically last up to 12 months, depending on use. However, the Microchip Cat Door Key does not use a battery for operation.

Is this compatible PetSafe electronic smart door? The one that came with the system is really heavy for my car.

The Microchip Cat Door Key measures 1-3/8 inch in diameter by 1-5/8 inches tall and ¼ inch thick.

It was pretty but I was misled.

I called support and was assured that I was gonna receive a chip to be embedded under my cats skin that would unlock the Cat Door BUT it doesn’t!!!
