FAQ

What is compounding?

Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.

Why do some pets need compounded drugs?

Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:

  • Your pet has trouble taking pills but will take medication in a flavored liquid or other form.
  • Your pet needs medication in a strength that is not commercially available.
  • Your pet is allergic to a specific ingredient in a medication.

Always talk with your veterinarian about any concerns you have about your pets health so they can prescribe a treatment for your pets unique needs.

Create or sign into your Chewy account.

    This is Best

By iSaraTex on Jul 11, 2021

I was truly surprised by the negative reviews; perhaps Chewy found a better manufacturer? What I can tell you is we tried this generic after continual difficulty locating the brand Vetmedin, made in Mexico. My vet said their paperwork was messed up with the Mexican govt. Huh??? Not my kind of biz; I’m trusting you with my best friend’s life!!! Our 16 yr old Dorkie wakes us up early, coughing bad, Vetmedin helped, but never lasted the full 12 hours, coughing 6am and 6 pm, everyday. When the Vetmedin wasn’t available, I tried this generic. My husband and I were shocked at how much BETTER it works. NO COUGHING, zero, ever!!! It also comes in more dose sizes, too, so we no longer have to break I was truly surprised by the negative reviews; perhaps Chewy found a better manufacturer? There is no generic pimobendan

By Tamara on Jul 6, 2021

People are making false claims that this is a knockoff it isn't. There is no such think as generic pimobendan/vetramin To the other reviewer that said her dog wouldn't eat. It's a known side effect. I cook for my dog now and he eats fine it also improved over time. or your vet can prescribe an appetite stimulate. This drug is somewhat of a miracle drug for DCM and other heart issues. Dogs can sometimes survive several years vs a couple months before. I just didn't want people to get discouraged from some of the reviews. It's a lifesaver.

    Do not buy

By AmericanGirl on May 24, 2021

my dog went down hill after taking these. I told everyone he was not long for this world. I quit giving them to him and went back to the brand Vetmedin and he is acting like a puppy, ask for me to throw his toy. Do not buy the compounded version. Chewy, I want my money back.

    Rapid decline

By Regret on Jun 23, 2021

After taking these my dog rapidly declined. He no longer wants to eat or go for walks. Breathing seems shallow. Not looking good at all. Wish I had NEVER given these to him.

Not worth the money, knock off version

By jayjayg on Apr 15, 2021

Unfortunately under the circumstances of low quantities being made of (Vetmedin Pimobendan) due to high demand... I had to turn to this knock off version of the medicine. So upset on how much money I wasted buying it and it didn’t help my dog who has a heart condition. Do not recommend anyone to waste their time and money on this “brand”

Our vet does not carry my boys dosage so chewy makes it easy for us to get what he needs.
