Why does Pork Chomps packaging include "wash hands before and after handling" in the instructions?

We suggest hand washing before and after all of our dog treat products. There isn't anything harmful on or in our products this is just a good hygienic practice. It is important to follow good kitchen hygiene practices when handling pet food, treats and chews, just as you would when you handle human food. Doing this helps keep pet foods, treats and chews from being contaminated with bacteria and other microorganisms from you, such as Salmonella, that can cause disease for your pet. Washing hands after also helps to prevent anyone becoming ill and possibly spreading the illness to others. It's a recommended good practice and in the best interest of you, your family and your pets.

How often can I give Pork Chomps to my dog?

The University of Illinois, a leading veterinary college, conducted a Digestibility Study of pork skin in 2012. The study provided in vitro results showing pork skin was 99.93% digested at the end of a 24-hour period. Since at the end of 24 hours Pork Chomps are almost fully digested, we feel comfortable recommending one chew per 24 hour period.
