Tallulah is a 12-year-old paint mare who tends to be a hard keeper, especially when it comes to maintaining her topline. I’ve recently started transitioning her to Purina Equine Senior Active, and while it’s still early in the switch, I can already tell she really likes it. She dives right into her bucket and finishes every last pellet, which is half the battle when feeding a horse with a picky appetite. The texture is uniform and easy for her to chew, which I appreciate since she’s at an age where dental health starts to matter more. I also like that the feed is designed for active senior horses who are still in regular work, like Tallulah. The nutritional profile looks solid, with controlled starch levels and a blend of fat and fiber for steady energy and body condition support. It’s still too soon to comment on changes in her muscle tone or weight, but I’m hopeful. We’re gradually transitioning from another feed brand, and I’m watching closely to see how she fills out over the next few weeks. So far, everything about this feed has made a great first impression, from the palatability to the formula. I’ll continue monitoring her condition as she moves fully onto this feed, but based on her response so far, I’m excited to see the results. I’ll definitely share an update once the transition is complete.

I give this grain to my 26.5 year old Morgan mare. She’s very active and in great shape but is a picky eater and hard keeper. This grain has been absolutely great for her! She eats it with no fuss whatsoever. It provides so many wonderful benefits to her as a senior horse and an active one. You can’t go wrong with the nutritional value this adds to your horse’s diet. I’m very pleased with the results! It’s a well rounded grain so you shouldn’t need to supplement with other products or at least very few. This offers your horse a plethora of nutritional benefits. I’m just glad my pickiest horse will eat it!

My old mare is 30 years old. I haven't had time enough to thoroughly evaluate this feed because it is quite different than her present feed so the transition must be slow. She is currently on an extruded feed and some second-cut hay. Purina is a very good grain company so I am sure that this grain is top quality. But it is very high fat and for active seniors. But at 30, my mare's weight is good and she is fully retired so not "active". I should have read the specifications more carefully to compare fat and protein. My feed store does not carry Purina so this will be a one bag trial. I commend the delivery driver who made it down my icy driveway with this 50 lbs. parcel.

I just started my 27 year old gelding on this product. He can be fussy about his feed at times, but he definitley seems to like this . It smells really good and is softer than some feeds which he needs at his age. It seems to be a good choice for him so far.

Used purina equine senior active at our farm in Chester county pa with an older mare as her daily feed. She ate 3lbs and and pm. She is a picky eater and had no reservations about cleaning up the feed. Also used it for a few other senior mares that are easy keepers and just get a handful of fed.

I gave my horse a handful of this when I was trying to talk him into eating some Bute powder. As soon as he smelled it from a few feet away he was there and diving for it. Loves it and wants more, more, more. Didnt care a bit that it was laced with meds, actually licked the bowl and looked for more.

Love this feed!

My OTTB absolutely loves this senior feed. It gives him the energy to act a fool, as you will see from the attached photo. I like the fact that the feed is not sticky

My OTTB absolutely loves this senior feed. It gives him the energy to act a fool, as you will see from the attached photo. I like the fact that the feed is not sticky or gummy like so many senior feeds are, yet it has an amazing smell. Low NSC too.

We have a 26 and a 31 year old and try to give them the best food we can. The Purina senior looks to be good food and our horses seem to like it. We had bee feeding another brand senior food and have started to see a decline in quality. I believe we are going to switch over to the Purina feed.
