Many people believe that garlic is harmful to dogs, and in large, concentrated doses this can be true. However, in the proportions that are used, it is highly beneficial to heart health, acts as a natural flea repellent, an antioxidant and anti-bacterial ingredient. Just like with humans, many things are healthy (and indeed necessary) in small doses but potentially harmful in large, concentrated doses.
