Protection from Scratching

Purrdy Paws soft nail caps protect various surfaces from accidental scratching damage caused by pets. Whether it's hardwood floors, furniture, or delicate fabrics, nail caps provide a barrier between the pet's claws and these surfaces, minimizing scratches and preserving the integrity of household items.

Humane Alternative to Declawing

Declawing can be painful and invasive—medical drawbacks to declawing include paw pain, infection, tissue necrosis, lameness, and back pain. Declawing can change the way a cat’s foot meets the ground and cause pain similar to wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes. Some cats may even become biters because they no longer have their claws for defense. Purrdy Paws nail caps provide a more humane solution for managing scratching behavior.

Healthy & Happy Pets

For any pet prone to anxiety or stress-related behaviors like excessive scratching, nail caps can offer relief. Covering the claws may make pets feel less inclined to engage in excessive scratching, leading to a calmer and happier demeanor. Some dogs may also experience traction issues, especially on hardwood floors, which can lead to muscular imbalances. Purrdy Paws give dogs the confidence they need to maintain a natural gait.

Safe and Easy to Apply

Purrdy Paws nail caps are made from non-toxic materials that are safe for pets, and application is easy:

  1. Trim your pet’s nails.
  2. Fill the cap 1/3 full of adhesive.
  3. Slide the cap onto the nail, then observe your pet for five minutes to prevent picking at the nail cap before the glue has dried. That’s it!

About Purrdy Paws

Purrdy Paws was founded in 2010 to provide a humane alternative to declawing. The inspiration came when the founder’s cat destroyed a couch. Anyone who has ever loved a cat but felt frustrated and wanted to prevent this sort of destruction will understand the feeling. The veterinarian-developed, humane solution they came up with was nail caps. The kitty loved the caps, he looked great, and they never had another furniture or people-scratching incident again!

Questions & Answers

24 Customer Questions

How do I remove them. They are glued on

Answer by ChewyNov 30, 2019
Purdy Paws nail caps fall off with the natural growth of your pets claws. As the nail grows, the outer layer of the claw sheds. If you do not see all nails shed after 4 - 6 weeks, just trim the tip of the nail cap. This will loosen the seal of the soft claws paws nail caps so you can remove it.

Can cats still climb if they are wearing these? How much does it affect their mobility?

Answer by ChewyJun 30, 2020
Purrdy Paw nail caps do not prevent general mobility. Cats can still jump, run, and play as normal. Since the caps completely cover the cat’s nails they would prevent the cat from both scratching and using their claws for climbing or defense. For this reason we recommend Purrdy Paw nail caps for indoor cats.

What is the glue made of? This product says non-toxic but what about the glue

Answer by ChewyOct 03, 2018
This glue is made out of cyanoacrylate.

Are any of these colors slightly translucent? I can’t tell if I have too much or too little glue in the cap and being able to see through the cap helps.

Answer by ChewyApr 01, 2021
The clear color is completely translucent. We would also recommend pink glitter, silver glitter, or gold glitter.

In order to move into my apartment I had to get these for my small dog and 2 cats. I can not recommend these enough. THEY WORK! I was real worried I was kissing my security deposit away but not anymore. My cats who used to scratch the carpet up like crazy do not even try anymore (I guess it is less fulfilling now) and there are no marks on my hard wood from my pooch. These are great.

These are extremely easy to use. I was about to apply them by myself in under 10 minutes. So far they have lasted through his scratching antics. I’m very pleased

I bought this for Cody and the rest of my cats not named and I tried to get it on him but, he's a huge cat. Part Siberian and Mainecoon his paws are huge. It wouldn't fit. So I just gave them to the shelter for to them to help cats get adopted. There's far too many in there. Please please have ALL your pets spayed or neutered. It helps them too. Also, have them CHIPPED! PLEASE!

I'm sure these work fine for some cats but mine was not having it. Im planning on discarding the rest and not purchasing this product or any like it again. The glue was hard to use because the tube doesnt squeeze, and she was panicked when I was putting them on like the glue hurt (I tried without the glue first so I could know if they would fit and she did fine with that). The paw I was able to put any on she isnt letting me touch anymore unless shes extremely relaxed or sleeping. She still puts her full weight on it though, so I'm not sure. She also is picking at them constantly and clearly just hates it. I will say the glow in the dark works great, and despite the picking at the two I was able to get on her they ARE staying on.

I am leaving this product a two star review because the nail caps did stay on. However, they never detached as intended after 6 weeks. This required a vet visit, as the nail caps began digging into my cat’s paw pad, causing pain and discomfort. She will require antibiotics. I will not be using this product again, and Chewy customer support was very helpful in assisting with my issue. If you choose to use this product, do so with extreme caution and monitor your cat’s paws to make sure every cap has detached after 4-6 weeks of wear.

Jury still out

It was extremely difficult to use the glue. Naturally, she hates the process. I was able to get four on and three remain after a week.

Neither one of us like them!

They seem to make her spread her back toes too far and it looked uncomfortable. I went on to declaw her front claws. I'm glad I did or I wouldn't have any furniture!

I was extremely nervous putting these on my elderly cat for the first time. She was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and the medication for treatment has her scratching her face, so while we adjust her dose I wanted to protect her skin by capping her back claws. I chose the size based on what she should weigh as she's currently underweight due to her medical condition. I utilized Chewy's 24/7 Help Chat for questions - they suggested I test fit the caps without glue first to make sure I have the proper size. I was told her nails should fill at least half the cap, not fall off on their own without glue, and not inhibit her ability to walk. The caps passed the test. I chose clear based on reviews so I could see how much glue I was putting in them. I found they slide on easier if you pinch the top/bottom a little to widen the opening. My only concern is with her claws not filling the cap entirely, that there is less contact between her nails and the glue, so they might not stay on as long. I will update the post as necessary.
