What exactly is "chicken byproduct meal," made from?
Answer by ChewyOct 01, 2018
Royal Canin only uses high-quality by-products, like hearts, livers and lungs. They are excellent sources of quality protein, vitamins and minerals and can help contribute to a balanced nutritional profile.

What country are the What country are you getting the chicken meal from?
Answer by ChewyJan 09, 2018
All of Royal Canin's ingredients are carefully selected for the health and well-being of the cats and dogs we feed. They're committed to sourcing their ingredients from suppliers located near their manufacturing facilities whenever possible. Because their standards remain the same regardless of the origin of the ingredient, they do not typically release the country of origin for each ingredient. Rigorous testing of the ingredients from the supplier, on arrival to the manufacturing plant and in the finished product guarantees the safety of their products. They're confident in the ingredient integrity of all of their suppliers because they demonstrate the ability to consistently meet the strict and thorough standards of their own Supplier Quality Assurance program, regardless of where they are located. As a key part of this program, the suppliers undergo frequent quality audits and there are no exceptions.

Using 5 cups a day of the 30 lb bag, can you tell me how long a bag would last? thank you
Answer by ChewyJul 17, 2018
There are approximately 68 cups of kibble in the 17 pound bag and 120 cups in the 30 pound bag. The 30 pound bag would last you about 24 days.

Are the "corn gluten meal,' and the 'wheat,' non GMO?
Answer by ChewyJul 05, 2017
Although they monitor every load of ingredients delivered to their plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients, Royal Canin does not use ingredients that are certified as non-GMO.

Excellent adult food

First and foremost the food was vacuumed sealed in an airtight bag which ensured freshness. I went from the puppy formula to the adult. It seemed our 1 year old Molly wasn’t keen on eating the puppy formula and even now as we migrate her with a percentage of the puppy formula with the adult it seems she focuses on the fresh adult and leaves the puppy in her bowl. Anyway the adult formula seems to be to her fussy liking.

Horrible ingredients, worse food

It astonishes me that this food has such good reviews; clearly no one has actually read the ingredient label. It's nuts what clever marketing and a high price tag can do to the consumer's mind. Here are the primary ingredients: Brown Rice, Chicken By-Product Meal, Oat Groats, Brewers Rice, Wheat, Corn Gluten Meal, First ingredient here guys, is RICE! Then by product meal! EW there's a reason why every good food lists "no by products" on their bags...bc it's horrible. THen oat groats, more rice, WHEAT, corn gluten meal! So yeah, this is great food if you're feeding a goat or other grain loving animal...but my dog is a carnivore and likes meat! Not to mention this food only has 276 calories per cup, when it should have closer to 475. The food i now feed, Orijen, has 476. And it's first 16 ingredients are all animal meat & protein. And guess what? IT's CHEAPER!!! Honestly, "Pedigree" dog food and "ol Roy" have equal ingredients to this. The only difference here is people are identifying with their breed and thinking there's some sort of science involved here. No. lol obviously.

Royal Canin Golden Retriever

Two AKC Goldens, ages 3 & 5, love this food. They have ate it since they were puppies, but the price is astronomical. I know it has nutritional supplements in it, but the price has nearly doubled in the last couple of years.

I have an adult female, she usually weighs 55lbs. The kibble is huge! I will be trying something else.

Our 5 year old Golden had some plaque built up on his teeth. After a week on this food, his teeth are pearly white!!

Its a favorite here

My golden Retriever turned one, and he switched from puppy royal canine to adult with no diarea and loves his food. Everyone notices his healthy beautiful flowing coat. He has grown healthy too and his grand father was a champion! It is twice the price but so worth every penny! My brothers black lab is 10 years staying over. She just loves the food as a treat eating several daily with no stomach or digestive issues more than her food so I will probably get her some in black lab. Mostly, my rescued chIn/pomeranian/ chihuahua/ mix loves the food as cookies the most! He is only 24 pds. A family of beautiful shiny coats spinning and dancing for breakfast of Royal canine. Please keep making this definitely royal premium food my dogs love.

it’s okayyy

I think this food is fine, but definitely overpriced. I get they put things in it for specific dog breeds but the only thing I can tell are basic vitamins all dogs need and then a specific shape for the specific dogs teeth… did R&D on that really necessitate a markup of $20/$30 above it’s comparable competitors When the ingredients are still (sub)standard? Bottom line, I think you can get a better food for your dog at this price point.

A Good Substitute for Large Breed Royal Canin

Evidently Royal Canin is having trouble getting ingredients for the Large Breed formula so I had to find a substitute that agreed with my Golden's stomach. I had tried this before and it didn't work out so well. He did so much better on the Large Breed formula. This time around the Golden Retriever formula seems to be OK and it's working for us until the Large Breed formula is available. The chunks in this bag are much larger and the amount you feed is different. Since I am mixing two formulas to make sure the transition sits well with the stomach issues I had to do some thinking!! I am just happy that I didn't have to switch to a different brand.

The proof is in the poop!

I could tell this is better quality dog food as soon as I opened the bag! My 2 goldens love it! Since I switched from their other dry food, they both go poop fewer times a day and less comes out! Why? Because they are absorbing the nutrients from the food and there is less to discard!!! Loving this dry food! Worth spending more!
