Transition Instructions
We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Does this food help prevent crystals in cat urine?
Answer by • Nov 13, 2022
This diet is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance, not prevention. The Urinary Care is restricted in minerals that contribute to urinary concerns such as phosphorus, magnesium and calcium. The Urinary Care is not intended to dissolve crystals and stones. It is geared towards cats that have never had a urinary concern in the past. The diet helps to maintain a healthy urine concentration by regulating the mineral balance.
For the prevention of crystals, we would recommend the Urinary SO Dry Cat Food. Our Urinary SO product line contains a higher sodium level than some of our other maintenance formulas to assist in increasing urine volume and urination frequency. By increasing the level of sodium consumed in the diet, the goal is to make the pet thirsty so that they drink more water. In doing so, we are increasing urine volume (the water). Consequently, the increased volume of urine will stimulate the pet to urinate more frequently. This “flushes” the urinary bladder of the solutes and crystals that may have formed. Ensuring that we achieve proper bladder flushing with the diet is essential to helping to prevent stone formation due to crystals sitting in the bladder and forming together to build stones. It is recommended to consult with a vet prior to feeding this diet.
I have 2 male cats, one of which is prone to cystitis when he gets stressed. I had them on a prescription food for a couple of years before it was getting outrageously expensive, so I decided to do a switch to Royal Canin Urinary Care. It has been a couple of weeks and my boys love it and had no issues transitioning over! The pieces are smaller than their other food and I think that it's a bit easier for them to chew. Not only that, even the largest sized bag has been quite a bit more affordable than their former food! I think we'll be sticking with this brand for the foreseeable future :)

New product
Still not sure if I will continue this newly chosen food as two of my cats have issues keeping this dry food down. Possibly because it's new after many years with a prescribed version of this they need getting adjusted to this.

So far, so good
My veterinarian wanted my girl Mauve to be on a better quality of cat food because she had struvite crystal in her urine. After some tries at other recommended brands, this is the one she likes and eats willingly. Her urinary habits are improving and I see no more evidence of blood in her urine either. Fingers crossed this continues to work for her.

All six cats approve
One of our cats had a urinary blockage and required a surgery and food change. We decided all six cats would benefit if we switched over. We were separating one cat to do wet food while the rest had dry kibble. It was not convenient to be separating them for two hours a day in the mornings and night. So this food has solved that issue completely. We do this dry kibble as free feeding with wet food once a day to promote hydration. We have four boys and two girls. All six immediately ran to the new food and accepted it. They used to be on Wellness but i’ve read it can lead to crystals because it’s such a high protein diet. The kibble pieces are larger than they’ve been used to but they don’t mind. I’m very satisfied with the new food and so are the cats. I will definitely be keeping the cats on this permanently.

cat doesn’t like it
My cat doesn’t like this food, I’m sure it’s a decent food, and might work for UTIs, my cat just didn’t want to eat it unfortunately

I hope in not jinxing myself by saying my picky girl really likes this dry food. She is SO picky but eats this willingly.

Highly Recommend
When my cat had crystals the vet recommended this food, which I needed to feed to both cats. It's pricy, so I tried this and others by IAMS and Hills. The girls both love this one, and have had zero issues over the years they've been eating it. Bonus, if we keep them brushed and just try to control overall cat "hair" issues, they never throw up either!

Nova's Favorite
My one year old cat had a UTI and I decided to support his urinary tract going forward. After he totally rejected another brand, which the smell alone was enough, I decided to try this. Though it is more expensive it is worth every penny. Nova is more active and playful than he was on other foods. He gobbles it up, runs with his Labrador sister, and then snuggles like a teddy bear!

Finally one they will eat
Wish the ingredients did not include corn and wheat, but it is the only urinary formula my kids will touch. Our vet assured us it is a good food and she has seen many cats thrive and live long lives eating this brand. One side note, we no longer see any hairballs since we began feeding this.
