Worried About Your Dog’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your dog’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some dogs.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your dog can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out

Infection

Puppies, older dogs, and dogs that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your dog. These special formulations can:

Support digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

My dog has IBD and was recently diagnosed with diabetes. His internal medicine vet prescribed this food (among a list of possible other options) and he absolutely would not touch it. I wanted him to like it as I trust royal canin’s research and brand but he wouldn’t eat it regardless of what I did to try to make it more appealing. My other dog wouldn’t touch it either. I know royal canin does palatability trials but I guess my dogs are just pickier than the test subjects. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a small bag of this at the time and wound up having to return the big bag which felt wasteful. Hopefully, a shelter pup is enjoying it! Crossing my fingers! If your dog is prescribed this food, maybe ask around to see if you can snag a cup/sample from someone else already using it just in case your dogs won’t touch it either.

We tried for days to get our dog to eat this food as an effort to isolate her allergies. She refused to eat anything for a couple of days and then we had to give in and add back some of her other food. She would pick around it and only eat the other stuff. We tried putting a "topper" on the mixed food and still she would pick around it. Absolutely no luck getting her to eat. We need another recommendation for hypoallergenic foods.

17.6 lbs is too big

My dog is very picky! And it'll depend on what day she will eat the hard food with the soft food. She will literally put the big chunks in her mouth, swirl it around

My dog is very picky! And it'll depend on what day she will eat the hard food with the soft food. She will literally put the big chunks in her mouth, swirl it around and spit it out! Other days she will eat it no problem. She's only 8 lbs and I doubt she will finish this bag before it goes bad! I was hoping to get her off of the soft food since they decided to change it, even though everyone acts as if it's the same!!!!! I don't understand why people can't say they've changed their food. It's obvious they did when you open the can up and there's a big clump of rice on top and none throughout. Then the rest of it is watery. Royal Canin should own up to it but they won't! I've called numerous times but whatever.

We had one of our Pugs that was constantly breaking out with painful, itchy rashes. We were advised that the first place to start was food. We took out all meat, land and sea!! And their byproducts, eggs, cheese, etc. It’s amazing but by feeding my dogs basically a salad (carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, bananas, blueberries, pears, etc) and this Canine Vegetarian formula, the itching amazingly stopped. The rashes stopped and their coats are so soft!! We are still giving one Pug Apoquel daily, so I think it might be the combo of a vegetarian diet and meds, but she’s so happy!!
