We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet's digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Along with some of the other reviews I was surprised to see a very compact meat source in the can. I expected it to be a lot more juicy and less conformed. I have a 14 year old chihuahua who takes longer eating this style of food since he no longer has teeth. Due to it being so mushy he can only take in so much at one sitting. I was giving him the FreshPet 'wet dog food' and he could eat that easier since it was less muddy. I will be purchasing another of this brand (Adult Renal Support D Thin Slices in Gravy Canned Dog Food) to see if he will eat that with more ease. Although he struggles he still loves the taste and eats as much as he can!
My Westie was just diagnosed with stage 1 kidney disease and so we switched to this food. I was nervous about it since he’s picky and has a sensitive stomach. Luckily, the transition has been smooth and he eats it happily. The only issue has been he is ravenous with the reduced protein, so we feed him much more (by volume) than he ate before.
I had to put my dog on this food due to early stages of kidney failure along with a heart murmur. He is a 14 year old Shih Tzu. Still spunky but slowing down. I was nervous about spending the money on this food and then having him hate it. To my surprise, he absolutely loves it and would prefer this over any other canned food I try to give him. I am so glad that he does because I told him he needs to live forever. Lol.
My 15 year old Maltese was diagnosed with Kidney Problems in early November! Never thought he would like his Prescription Food. Well he LOVES it and I’m ecstatic that Chewy offers it! Can’t always find it at Chain Pet Stores and Chewy just makes it SO easy to order and get it delivered!!! Thank you CHEWY for making my Dogs life tasty
Unfortunately, I was not able to feed this food to my dog due to unfortunate circumstances. I sent an email to Chewy, and they got back to me right away. They refunded the food and told me to donate it. My dog passed the rainbow bridge the other day, and Mary replied to my email and wrote such comforting words. She was very kind and comforting. She and the Chewy team even sent me flowers on behalf of my little Misty girl! I'm at a loss for words. I have never seen such great compassion in a company before. I will forever be a Chewy customer. Their customer service is above and beyond expectations. I wish I could write a review for the whole store and not just this product. I am very grateful for their kind words and the flowers. Thank you so much! Katie
My Razz has TCC bladder cancer. She is very picky and has tried several prescription dog food. As of now this is her favorite! It has a yummy smell that only your pup will love.
Annie has just been diagnosed with high protein in her diet. To avoid going into kidney failure, the vet immediately wanted her on a renal 5% protein diet. I had no idea what to look for so I turned to Chewy's vets who pointed me to Royal Canin food. When ordering I decided to choose the Renal Support E because it was a loaf. After placing the order, I changed my mind and thought maybe she should have something with gravy so I chose Renal Support D. Annie loves to eat and never turns food down. Well, she at a can and a half and then came down with Vestibular again (had nothing to do with the food). So, she decided she didn't like the Support D and I have to admit, she likes to chew and Support D had an awfully lot of gravy. The only way I could get her to even eat one more can was to give her Entyce which is an appetite stimulant. I knew I didn't want to continue giving her the Entyce though because she's not in kidney failure yet. I tried everything to get her to eat and almost gave up as she just was not eating. Somehow during my research, thank goodness, I came across this food. I figured I'd try it. I could mix it with the Support D since it has so much gravy and perhaps she'd eat both. Well, we also have cats and Annie, being a border collie, herds those cats in the house constantly. I'm talking 24/7. She goes nuts when I open canned cat food. This Renal Support Early Consult was delivered today and she has gobbled it up. Such a surprise!! I think she thinks it's cat food. It really doesn't have much sauce at all if any but it's moist. I'll mix it with the other and maybe she won't notice the difference. So, if you have a dog that's in Renal failure and won't eat, please try this food. You might be surprised. I know I was and am just thrilled to death to have found this at Chewy. Thank you Chewy and please don't stop carrying this food!!
My dogs love it. We mix it with the dry food and some warm water. We have to put it in a tight seal container since we only give half in morning and the rest in afternoon. Reason for container is because it stinks.
Wilma was diagnosed with kidney disease April 2022. She is 14.4 years old now. We started with another kidney food and she ate it for a few months with boiled chicken topper but then would not touch it and just ate the chicken. She really likes the royal canin. She now leaves the chicken topper and prefers the RC.
Just switched from Hill k/d to Royal Canine. She had been on the dry, but we just got the canned in. We do the part can, part dry and she now eats really well. Previously, she would leave about 1/2 of the dry and parts of the wet from the hill (any flavor). Not sure what it is about this wet, but she's been consistently eating all of her food for the last week.
