Questions & Answers

Still trying to determine the actual differences between the A,F,S Renal Support dry foods. What are the flavors of each? Aromatic, flavorful, and savory mean nothing to me.
Answer by ChewyDec 07, 2018
Dogs with renal issues generally need more options for palatability, focusing on scent and textures. Renal Support A is an aromatic, rectangular kibble. Renal Support F is a flavorful, round kibble. Renal Support S is a savory crescent-shaped kibble. Renal Support D is delectable morsels in gravy. Renal Support E is an enticing loaf. Renal Support T is tasty pate.

What does this mean exactly? "Intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only" Mixed with regular food? If my dog needs a Kidney Diet wouldnt it be always?
Answer by ChewySep 01, 2017
This diet is to be prescribed by a veterinarian and fed based on their prescription directions.

How long is a bag good for once opened (stored in an airtight container)? Thank you.
Answer by ChewyOct 09, 2017
The best way to keep the product fresh is to store it in the original bag, inside a container, and use within 1-2 months. Since the product is naturally preserved, the longer the product is open, the more the product can oxidize. It's not recommend to freeze the product because that can draw out the moisture in the kibble and upon thawing, it can mold.

how big is the kibble for the kidney F? i have a small yorkie, no teeth, she can eat kibble but it can't be too hard, or large.
Answer by ChewyOct 11, 2019
The kibble in this recipe is typically around 1 centimeter in diameter.

Good renal food

Eddie was just diagnosed with kidney failure. After speaking with the people at Royal Canin (I already had him on special food for prancreatitis and I wanted to know which of the renal food was the best to transition to) I slowly transitioned him to the new food and so far so good. It took 2 weeks to transition him and he is completely eating this new food and he loves it.

Royal Canin Renal Support F

My Bailey (Lab mix, ~10yrs old) eats this kibble very well. She is a CKD patient and went off her RC Renal Support S recently; although, she has liked the "S" and the "A" formulas before. She has been eating this while receiving appetite stimulant meds with good results. Thank you, Chewy, for making this option available.

Picky eater approves

My 17 year old Chihuahua will actually eat this (under protest some days). She is a very finicky eater, but does enjoy it. My only complaint is that it will draw ants in from outside O_o This creates the removal of free feed for her. But seems to be good stuff

Auto ship did not occur

I place and order for my dogs kidney care dog food to ship on July 18, 2022. However it did NOT ship. I returned home from my trip, and my pup had two days of food remaining from his previous bag. So sad that he was out, even though I was proactive with the auto ship order.

Fast and in stock

My oldest has been on renal food for a while now. I try to support the vet that’s taken care of all my dogs but this last time they dropped the ball. They said they ordered it but it just wasn’t arriving. Our renal food supply ran out and I checked with Chewy. They had it in stock and they touted 1-3 days to arrive. It’s the same stuff I get at the vet and they really did get it to us in a couple days.

Bohenry needs it to live

It’s just so expensive and after not working for 4 weeks due to an ankle break I can’t afford it

Apparently Quite Tasty

My 16 year old Shiba Inu has been on prescription renal diet for several years now and this seems to be the only dry food he’ll tolerate. I augment this with the Royal Canin prescription renal diet canned “d” food. He really likes the gravy in it and it helps him get more fluids in his system. I would recommend to try this especially if your pet is a picky eater.
