About Royal Canin Kidney Health for Dogs

Concerned about Your Dog’s Kidney Health?

The healthy functioning of your dog’s kidneys is essential to them living a healthy life. Their kidneys serve as a filtering system that helps remove toxins and waste from blood. You should always work with your veterinarian to monitor your dog’s kidney health.

Support Your Dog’s Quality of Life Through Kidney Health Challenges

Feed a Specific Renal Diet

Your veterinarian can recommend the right diet to support your dog’s kidney function.

Encourage Drinking Water

Make sure that your dog always has fresh and clean water available. Offering them moist food can also support hydration.

Stimulate Your Dog’s Appetite

Offer your dog a nutritional option with different taste, smell, and texture to help ensure food intake, especially for pets with a poor appetite.

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a formula that includes:

EPA + DHA

Featuring EPA + DHA long-chain omega-3 fatty acids to help support renal function.

Antioxidant Complex

Enriched with a blend of antioxidants to promote tissue and cellular health.

Kidney Support

Formulated with low phosphorus and high-quality restricted protein to support renal function, helping to improve quality of life.

Adapted Energy

Adapted energy content to reduce meal volume and help compensate for a decreased appetite.

Add Variety and Remember to Set Autoship

Offering a range of aromas, taste and textures can help ensure palatability and adequate food intake. Also, remember to set Autoship to make sure that your dog always has their veterinarian’s recommended nutrition.

Renal e for cats, does it need refrigeration after opening can?

What is the differences between the Royal Canin Veterinary Renal Support diets

Answer by ChewyJan 26, 2018
The differences between the Royal Canin Renal diets is the texture and flavors. A is Aromatic, F is Flavorful, S is Savory, D is Delectable, T is Tasty and E is Enticing.

The can of T from vet is a loaf type. Can D is morsels in gravy. What is can E? It would help to add pics of food on website.

Answer by ChewyAug 13, 2020
The Renal Diet dry food A is chicken and rice, F is chicken and pork, and S is chicken, pork, and fish. The Renal Diet canned food D is pork and chicken in morsels in gravy, the T is pork, chicken, and salmon in morsels and gravy, and the E is pork and chicken loaf in gel.

The ingredients list by-products, which in my mind are the leftovers of the protein products. I've never allowed by-products in any of my fur baby diets. Please explain what are in the by-products and how are they viewed as healthy

Answer by ChewyMay 10, 2018
By-products are the ground, clean parts of the animal, which include internal organs, bones/cartilage and other parts. Royal Canin uses high-quality by-products, like hearts, livers, and lungs. When by-products are processed correctly they provide excellent protein, vitamins and minerals for your pets.

Sadly there seems to be a monopoly on who manufactures kidney safe food. My dog hates this with a red hot intensity. If there are other brands-try those first. This stuff looks and smells awful, so dry so I don’t blame her. Poor thing. Meal time is a battle. She has a healthy appetite otherwise, it’s just this food.

This is prescription food, so it’s what my dog has to have. However, he’s a 6 pound chihuahua and only eats 1/2 cup of food per day. The shipment is too much food at once and I would prefer small cans so he’s not eating brown goo when he gets to the bottom of the can.

She loved it!

Bitsy is fussy but loved all 3 renal formulas. A little tip I read about today is to mix some water in the wet food to give them a bit more water. That made it easier

Must be tasty

I had such problems when my cat was on a kidney RX diet. My English Setter is a finicky eater to start with so I was very surprised when she wolfed this down.

my senior dog will eat anything. RAVAGE anything. so he eats it good and vet reports have all been stable which is great. my biggest complaint is oh my gosh does this stink so bad. terrible. it stinks up the whole house, and since my baby has no teeth, it gets flung everywhere as he eats it is mega nasty. what's even worse is his poop smell... and his FARTS ARE LETHAL. i've been desperate to try and find a food that matches the low protein and phosphorus levels that this does but nothing really compares. on my hands and knees begging for them to make this stank less. we have a designated tupper ware to put this in in the fridge, and the smell has literally petrified the tupperware. you open that thing up and it assaults your nose. so i guess if u dont care about the stank go ahead and buy this my dog loves it. but im desperate for an alternative AHHHHH HELP HELP MEAHHHH
