Worried About Your Cat’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your cat’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some cats.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your cat can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out.

Infection

Kittens, older cats, and cats that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your cat. These special formulations can:

Support digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Does this come in wet food?

Answer by ChewyJan 01, 2020
At this time, the manufacturer does not make a wet food version of this formula.

My cat is currently on RC Duck & Pea formula. Still itching/scratching. I, too, was told to avoid common proteins (like chicken, turkey, etc) but have also heard that soy is not good either. And yet there is soy in the hydrolyzed diet. Confused. I thought soy wasn't good for allergies either.

Answer by ChewyAug 15, 2018
If your cat is allergic to soy he might have an allergic reaction to the food.

Dies this product cause cat to drink a lot of water and gain weight. My cat is drinking a lot and gained weight.

Answer by ChewyJun 19, 2020
Royal Canin wouldn’t expect this formula to cause increased thirst. It is a bit higher in calories and fat so weight gain may be possible if fed in larger amounts.

My cat likes wet food, so can the hydrolyzed kibble be softened with water?

Answer by ChewyMar 25, 2019
Water can be added to this formula. Just take about a ¼ cup of filtered water and add it to the top of the bowl of kibble in order to moisten and enhance the flavor of the pet food.

This Rx Hydrolyzed Protien dry cat food is working for my Kiitty. She kept throwing up and when she wasn't throwing up, she wasn't eating enough. I switched her from Crave to Iams to Purina to Tiki and she went from over 11 lbs to under 9 lbs. I took her to the vet today and she's back above 9 lbs. and she really likes the food and the treats of the same name. When I go to pour some in her dish her head is in the way because she's ready to eat. She still throws up now and then but not as much and I think mainly from eating too fast and too much.

My Claire is eating it! But is it the answer?

This was prescribed for my cat but I hesitated because she is a picky eater and it wasn't offered in wet form and very expensive. But I eventually ordered a sample bag and she loved it. So I ordered the larger bag. She's not throwing up anymore and although she is still having symptoms of intestinal discomfort, she has alot more energy and wants to be outside during the day versus sleeping all day. My main concern is her weight loss. Following up with our vet at the end of this month. Hoping she gained versus losing more weight.

How well the change in food helped Isabella and her issue with throwing up. This issue went from every once in a while to almost daily. After a conversation with our vet it was recommended that we change her food as it was possible that she had developed a allergy to her old food. Just a note Izzy and her sister were both eating a prescription food before(sensitive stomach's) No issues at all with Izzy liking her food. We also notices within a few weeks that Izzy wasn't rubbing up against door frames(like she had a itch)and was more settled down thru out the night. We are feeding both our cats the same food know and they love it. Very positive results...

My elderly cat has small intestine inflammation, causing her to vomit almost every day. She has tried several other dry food brands and this is the brand that has finally worked to cause little to no vomiting after eating. She’s also a very picky eater and seems to like it so far - hope that lasts! I also give her a probiotic capsule every day that helps. I would highly recommend both if you have an older cat.

My kitty cat was down to 6 pounds, barely moved, and had diarrhea. With no parasites and normal blood work, my vet suggested we try hydrolyzed protein. We saw some immediate improvement, and over time the little guy gained weight back, and started to play and get the zoomies. His older brother tolerates the hydrolyzed protein diet well.

Through our 18 year old kitty’s advanced stages of irritable bowel disease, this food was a miracle. I tried over 20 different cat foods in her last year and nothing worked until we found this hydrolyzed protein food. She was always a very picky eater but she would eat it up. It controlled her symptoms well.

My maine coon has IBD and tests indicated she was not absorbing any nutrients. She was down to 6 pounds and not doing well. Tried less expensive IBD diets with little success due to the severity of her case. After a month plus of B12 injections and putting her on this hydrolyzed diet, she started to slowly gain weight. She overtime went up to 10.5 pounds and is symptom free for over 3 years. Very expensive food, but a lot less than the tests and visits. She's on it for life. Hope this helps someone.

My cat has a very sensitive stomach (suspected IBS) and has been on Hill's Z/D for years. They switched the formula without warning and suddenly all of his bad symptoms were back. He was vomiting daily and his skin was irritated. I switched to this as an alternative. He didn't love it at first, but now he eats it without complaint. And the vomiting has stopped!
