About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Dogs

Royal Canin, incredible in every detail. Tailored nutritional solutions for gastrointestinal health.
Acute or chronic? If your Veterinarian thinks your pet has a gastrointestinal issue, they may classify it as acute or chronic. Acute conditions appear suddenly and deteriorate rapidly. Chronic conditions develop over time and may worsen gradually.

Worried About Your Dog’s Digestion?

Your dog’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Dog’s GI System

  1. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  2. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion; inflamation of the pancreas may be cause by a high fat diet or treats.
  3. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  4. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  5. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is

Easily digestible to help reduce the load on the gastrointestinal tract

Formulated with omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA to aid digestive health and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system

Highly palatable to encourage eating, even when appetite is decreased due to gastrointestinal upset

Balanced for good digestion, with a blend of fibers and prebiotics to support digestive health

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Are the cans BPA free?

Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2025
Royal Canin has stated the interior lining of the can is not made with BPA specifically, however the cans may contain a minute level of BPA remaining from the manufacturing process, for that reason they cannot say they are "BPA Free". The levels are trace, and well below the established safe levels set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Union Food Safety Agency.

My 16 year old Border Collie began having gastrointestinal issues. He lost weight and having other problems. The vet started him on the kibble. Then, he got picky and didn’t want to eat at all. So I added the can food to his kibble. He’s putting on weight and cleaning his bowl.

Knowledgeable northern breed vet recommended

Northern breeds produce more stomach acid and the high fiber content of this food helps produce solid poops.

I received a case of this food, the first can was filled with mold. I opened another can and it seemed ok. My dog was very sick 6 hours later and had to take him to the vet. They had to give him meds and fluids, cost over $150. Neither Chewy or Royal Canin seem to want to take care of the vet bill that I was stuck with. I have supported Royal Canin for years, and thinking maybe it's time to switch.

Dog loves this and it helps GI issues

My vet switched my dog’s food due to GI issues. He is big and oddly always been a picky eater. But he loves this food! And it truly has helped with the GI issues

Expensive

I think it’s overly expensive. It does the job and the dogs love it.
