About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Dogs

Royal Canin, incredible in every detail. Tailored nutritional solutions for gastrointestinal health.
Acute or chronic? If your Veterinarian thinks your pet has a gastrointestinal issue, they may classify it as acute or chronic. Acute conditions appear suddenly and deteriorate rapidly. Chronic conditions develop over time and may worsen gradually.

Worried About Your Dog’s Digestion?

Your dog’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Dog’s GI System

  1. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  2. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion; inflamation of the pancreas may be cause by a high fat diet or treats.
  3. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  4. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  5. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is

Find The Perfect Balance

My dog has hardly any teeth. Is this a hard dog food, or somewhat soft?

Answer by LuvmydogOct 12, 2025
I grind the small kibble in a blendjet(little dog here -with IBD) She tends to not chew the kibble well even when small. So now I grind it to almost powder form and sprinkle some of it over her other food.

I need this dogfood every Three weeks and have another item being auto shipped every 4 weeks. Is there a way to seperate the auto ship dates?

Answer by DogmomJul 19, 2025
Yes, just create 2 separate auto ship orders.

Perfect small size for older dogs

Our furgirl is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (45lbs), and she LOVES small kibble. The original Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low fat for bigger dogs is too big! so I checked the nutritional information for the small dog formula against the bigger normal sized and it is the exact same, but you have to feed more and it would be less cost effective as they do not offer small sized kibble in larger bags. I hope they see this and consider making small kibble sized for larger dogs that have missing teeth etc. Including pics of the original one vs the small dog small bites one and you can see it is very different. My girl had a hard time chewing the larger ones as she does have missing molars and a few others that are broken just from being mistreated before we adopted her. So the small bites are better. Hope this helps someone!

My little old lady is missing a lot of teeth, but she still likes to eat kibble. So when I saw this in mini/bite-size pieces for little dogs, I got it for her. She loves it! Her tummy is happy because it's the same formula, and she's not relegated to just the canned version with sprinkles of dusted kibble on top anymore. She is enjoying a full meal and is actually starting to eat added (mashed) vegetables to go with each meal. Glad I got this for her!

Our Maltese has been eating the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal kibble his whole life, and loves it! Thought the "Small Breed" variety would be better for him, he will NOT eat it! Noses through his bowl used for his kibble, and pushes out the "small breed" pieces and will only eat the regular! Had to reorder regular Adult gastro kibble, he eats it up!

My Yorkshire Terrier, Rusty, has been eating this food for over a year and we absolutely love it. He enjoys every meal, has great digestion, lots of energy, and his coat looks healthy and shiny. At the very beginning, there was a slight skin dryness while he adjusted, but it went away quickly and has not returned. Overall, this food has been amazing for him, and I highly recommend it to other pet parents.

Our vet recommended this brand because our 8 year old Yorkie was overweight causing urinary issues. We had her on chicken only and her triglycerides were extremely high from fat & high salt intake. Molly loves this food! She lets us know am/pm when time to eat and we even use these as treats. I would highly recommend this food.

The dry dog food is nice and small for my 4lb girl. I use the dry version of the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat small dog kibble as "cookies" for her when she goes potty. She Loves her cookies! At mealtime she gets the canned loaf version. She has IBD and I'm very cautious about what she eats so she has no flareups.

This is not the dog food that I had intended to order. The bag looks the same as the Royal Canin Urinary Health. Unfortunately, the vet’s office approved the GI health food, even though our dog has never been on this type of food. My eyes and the prescription process failed in both accounts!

My dog finally eats his food right away!

I was worried when my dog had to change food to be on a low-fat prescription. He had been on the same dry food since we got him, over 3 years. But he LOVES this food! With is OLD food, he sometimes would not eat his breakfast until 9 pm, and would sometimes go a whole day without eating. With THIS food, he eats his whole serving right away, breakfast and dinner. He has been healthy since using this food, and really enjoys mealtime.

The only kibble my dog eats.

I have a mini Goldendoodle who’s incredibly picky about food. I’ve tried everything: freeze-dried, fresh, wet, kibble, and she would still go days without eating if she didn’t like it. It’s been so frustrating and expensive. This food has honestly been a lifesaver. It took a little time to get her on a feeding schedule, but now I can put down a bowl and she won’t move until she’s finished. I’m so relieved to finally have something she actually eats.

The product was packaged and shipped well. It was pretty easy to put together. The power drill definitely made the difference in speed. For some reason, I thought I was getting part plastic cat house. I was very surprised when I pulled out all the pieces and it was wood. I honestly have to say I was disappointed. Will it hold up through the season? I am not sure it will. Where the screws are on the roof portion of the cat house, I suspect it will leak. I plan to put some DAP or something on it to help keep that from happening. I do not suspect it will be very warm this winter but it is better than being out in the cold wind with no shelter. All in all, if I knew exactly what I was buying I would not have. I would have continued to search until I found something else. I do believe the picture online is a bit deceiving.
