Food She Eats

I have a constant battle with Pepper and her food. She stops eating most and isn't crazy about any. But, when we had to go to the hospital for her diarrhea, they prescribed this food. Figured it would be like all the rest, like it for a minute then not. But, she's been on it for 3 weeks and she gobbles it up rather than stretching it out all day. So fingers crossed. Her primary said she can stay on it for as long as she wants it. Only negative is the prescription required. That's a pain.

My fur baby cannot eat this new formula

My 12 year-old Chihuahua mix was on the "old" formula of this food for about 6 or 7 years since being diagnosed with pancreatitis. No problems recently except for the occasional mild "episode". Hill's made the decision to add pre-and probiotics (biomes) to the new formula and my dog cannot eat it. I have spoken to 2 very nice reps with Hill's, all the guarantees in the world are no good if my dog cannot eat the food without getting sick. Not sure what I am going to do. She is on boiled chicken and rice right now and I am trying to mix in over a period of time the sensitive stomach and skin formula that seems to have almost the same low fat and protein as the prescription formula. I am sure that I am not the only pet parent having this problem, maybe if enough of us complain they will make the "old" formula as well as the "new" formula for dogs with sensitive stomachs. I somehow cannot see thousands of pet owners complaining that the prescription dog food their dog has been thriving on and doing beautifully suddenly needs "biomes". Why was this change made anyway?

Hill’s Gone sour?

Let me start by saying Chewy.com is great. And their customer service is excellent. But the last two cases I have received of Hill’s i/d Low Fat canned food smells sour and turns Gray almost as soon as you open it. I even went to my local vet and bought a few cans, they don’t look as bad, but they still smell sour. All of the cans/cases have expiration dates in 2024. If Hill’s changed the recipe, my yorkie doesn’t approve. My dog doesn’t want to eat it at all. Looking into new low fat food for my pancreatitis-prone yorkie-poo.

Discolored Dog Food

Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Digestive Care Low Fat Original Flavor Pate Wet Dog Food. I ordered this food and when I opened the can the sides of the food touching the can were a dark gray. Chewy replaced the order and the same thing happened. I know Hill's changed the look of the label. They may have also changed the cans they use and that's the reason the food is tainted, or it could just be the food itself. I would give this food no star at all, but had to pick one in order to post. Chewy refunded my money.

Less food per can - should alert consumer

My dog is on this dog food because he has GI issues and we are trying to help him gain weight. A couple weeks ago, there were 349 calories per can. Now there are 329. You’d think a “veterinary diet” wouldn’t be able to change the content without alerting the consumer. Rather, the writing on the can is fainter between the labels. I’ve attached a photo of the cans we just received versus a couple weeks ago.

Nasty gray black color upon opening

I hope someone else can weigh in on this. The can is definitely smaller but worse is when you open it the food inside which was always on the gray side looks even darker bordering an black. Once you scoop out the top, underneath you see what used to be the old color. Even with a little pink in it. I'm concerned and afraid to feed it to my dog; i will send back the case.

For My Dog, Hills Digestive Care Is A Winner

After years of being on a very highly esteemed and expensive prescription dog food, my boy balked and refused to eat it. Uh oh, now what? His vet gave me a few cans of Hills Digestive Care and his reaction was incredible. He cannot get enough of it. I am sure there will be dogs that will not react with this kind of enthusiasm, but I am grateful that he loves it.

not great new formula

unfortunately my dog rejects this food now due to the changes in the formulation. good news is that i tried the chunky stew version recently and she loves this one. if you are unhappy with the new version try the chunky stew, or the low fat royal canin (which just smell and looks like better quality imo)

It was so easy!!

My 17 year old schnauzer requires prescription food and I have been making trips to the vet to buy it for years!! I finally decided to try Chewy and simply placed the order and gave them my vet’s info and Chewy got the RX and my purchase was on the way within a few hours!!! I was thrilled that it was actually cheaper than my vet! Thank you Chewy—I will never go back to buying from my vet!

New formula

Stopped using after first can of new formula. After opening can the food looked discolored and our little old Chihuahua will not even touch it. Was very happy with old formula.
