Feeding Instructions
Feed from 20 weeks of age and on, or when laying eggs as a complete diet. Offer free choice Layer Grit to support digestion and Oyster Shell for egg shell strength. Always offer plenty of clean, fresh water.

Change in making?
Either there is a change in this product or the wrong thing has been bagged. My chickens refuse to eat it after opening this bag after over a year of devouring it. I did notice the pellets are way smaller and more crumbled like. I am wondering if there is a change in the product now. This food is very expensive and I order more than I need at one time bc there was a period of time I was having a hard time finding it.
Girls Like It
Haven't noticed a difference in egg quality. Product is way overpriced.
Pellets are Large
Sad to say, after eating Scratch and Peck Layer Feed for years, my chickens didn’t transition well to this pelleted feed. I gradually mixed it into their whole grain feed for a couple of weeks, but once it got to where I was feeding just the pellets a couple of weeks ago, I’m finding most of it left in the feeder. I feed my birds daily, hoping to keep the feed fresh and avoid waste. I think the size of the large pellets is just too big of a change for them.
We love it
The chickens love these pellets! I wasn’t sure since they seemed to always prefer England’s best. I love this food because it helps keep food waste out of our landfills since that is what black soldier fly larva eat.
Bummed - my hens won’t eat it.
I tried mixing it with their old food. They pick all around the pellets. It’s always left behind.
Just what we needed!
This is a great feed for my girls. They used to be on the scratch and peck until I noticed they were picking out certain grains leading to waste and a big patch of barley grass under their feeder (more funny than a problem). They love these pellets and I love the quality. There was a transition period to win them over but they transitioned well.
Great food, pellets take an adjustment period
My chickens are happy and healthy on this food. I switched to this from Scratch n Peck's whole grain blend. My chickens were just picking out the good stuff and leaving the less tasty but healthier stuff behind. I was really happy to see this brand put out a pelleted food and tried mixing it in gradually with the old food, but they just avoided the pellets! Picky chickens will be picky chickens. It took removing their old food and giving them only these pellets before they adjusted, and then it took several days before they got used to the new feed. However, if you look up switching over from whole grains or crumbles to a pelleted feed, this is a common problem for any feed brand. Chickens need time to adjust to the size of the pellets.
Not for me
I prefer whole gain feeds but Ive had people tell me pellets are better because the waste less that way. When scratch and peck came out with pellet with extra stuff in it I figured I would give it a try. I tested it out for the entire amont of the bag. My girls would actively dig throught the pellets looking for whole gains. Maybe if i started them younger but i prefer to see what they are eating so im going to stick with the whole grain formulas of Scratch n Peck feed
GREAT FEED!
Only the best for my girls! Give them time to adjust to the transition, I mixed mine half and half with their whole grain S&P feed and they didn't want to touch it at first but after a few weeks they were picking out the pellets to eat and leaving the whole grains. This is also great for ducks because they like to wash their food down with water and with the whole grain S&P, a lot of the food and vitamin/mineral powder would wash out into the water and be wasted. No waste no mess with the pellet. My girls have all gained weight, eat more and are in better condition on this pellet.
Rejected by Picky Eaters
I love that this feed is made with grubs instead of fish, but my chickens refused to eat the pellets, even after weeks of gradually introducing it. I am going back to the Scratch and Peck grain. Hopefully S & P will switch all of their feeds to grubs, which seems more sustainable than fish.
