My daughter shares her entire bedroom with her pet bunny Bobo. He is litter box trained. We have always provided him with Timothy hay—as part of his diet, but also for bedding in his litter box. We place his box under a hay manger mounted on the wall. Bobo goes into the box and pulls hay from the manger to eat. A lot of the hay ends up on the bottom of his box. We compost the combination of hay, urine and manure. The problem is that the hay does not fully absorb the urine, so the box can quickly get pretty filthy and smelly. SMALL PET SELECT’S Hemp Pelleted Bedding is a great solution! According to the company, this dust-free bedding has a 400% absorbency rate. Based on the reduction of odor and ease of cleaning the litter box, I believe it! Of course, since the bedding is made from hemp fibers and is pesticide-free, it’s a wonderful addition to the compost bin and ultimately my garden. We use just enough bedding to cover the bottom of the litter box and let Bobo cover the bedding with hay and his waste.

Would be perfect with the right litter pan.

I like the hemp litter because its completely natural and a little goes a long way. My rabbits tried nibbling on it at first so i was happy that it wouldnt hurt

I like the hemp litter because its completely natural and a little goes a long way. My rabbits tried nibbling on it at first so i was happy that it wouldnt hurt them if ingested. It also does well controlling odors. I took a star away because it is messy. Once it starts to expand from soaking up urine it gets tracked out of the litter pan. The rabbits also dig in it sone which doesnt help the mess. If you had a litter pan that had the wire cover, the hemp litter would be perfect! Because it does soak up an extreme amount of urine and theres no pee smell.

The box itself is nice, it comes in a sturdy cardboard box with no internal plastic which I prefer. The pellets are definitely on the larger side but my bun is not picky so I wasn’t worried about it. There’s no distinct odor and there wasn’t a lot of dust or any particles come off it when I scooped it into the litter box. Xena, our bun, used it right away! I have the picture attached but he ran right up to it as soon as I put the litter box back in. He had been running around for a little while so he was ready to go. Urine absorption has been as good as any other pelleted rabbit litter I’ve used, not better or worse. Holds a little bit of smell but it’s not bad, especially given how smelly rabbit pee is.
