what is silver vine

Answer by ChewySep 26, 2023
Silvervine is a wild-growing herb foraged in the mountains of Japan and China; it has a strong natural effect on cats, even some that do not respond to catnip.

does this catnip have a lot of splinters?

Answer by ChewyNov 30, 2023
The catnip should not contain a large amount of stems, however, it does vary by container. Sometimes during processing and packaging, the stems can accumulate together, so some containers may have more stems than others although practices and procedures are in place to prevent this from happening.

Can your cat safely eat this catnip?

Answer by ChewyJan 18, 2026
The SmartyKat Silvervine Cat Attractant Catnip is non-toxic. Some cats enjoy rolling in it, others enjoy eating it. You can sprinkle it in food or on the ground, or any surface you want your cat to interact with – scratchers, toys, beds, etc. Cats have different sensitivities to catnip and silvervine so always start with a small amount first and go from there.

My cats love catnip and I give them organic catnip tea. This way I can consume it too as in liquid beverage. But I heard about the silver fine and bought some of it and my oldest cat who was kind of getting turned off or just lazy to the catnip. Just decided that the silver Vine was the love of his life. So we have since put it on our list as a full-time thing and the other three cats just enjoy it. I think it just gives them something else and the spray I have bought it. It is wonderful! I bought some toys but they weren't exactly thrilled about it so I will just keep up with the silver Vine itself

Nothing,

None of the 6 cats got excited about it, 4 would not touch it. The regular smartykat they all love never let a crumb behind. Never purchase this again whatever

Minkc is not a fan.

I bought this due to the great reviews but Miss Minkx is not a fan at all. Sniffed it once and walked off. The dog ate it. The cat loves catnip but I guess silvervine

Both of our cats love this silvervine. One sploots over it so he doesn’t have to share, rolls around in it, then sleeps for the rest of the day. One licks up a dainty amount, then kicks the edge of the rug for a half hour. When it’s been too long, they both sit on the corner of the rug where I sprinkle it, and glare at me until I catch on.

We'll keep buying it, again & again

This was a repeat purchase. My cats love this stuff. I put it on the ripple mat; in a container with some leaves (from outside) & treats, and let the cats go crazy

This was a repeat purchase. My cats love this stuff. I put it on the ripple mat; in a container with some leaves (from outside) & treats, and let the cats go crazy digging around in it. When the bottle gets about halfway, I'll store some small toys (like mice or puffballs) in there & when I take them out they go crazy over the toys.

I didn't realize what a difference silvervine could make (honestly I bought the product just because it was a big size of catnip, didn't notice the extra VERY COOL ingredient!) We have one cat that loves catnip and one that's "meh" about it. Both are obsessed with this stuff - a fun surprise and great treat for them.

Couldn't Care Less For It

I was actually looking for the original SmartyKat catnip (drives my cat absolutely nuts when he inhales it). This version had the complete opposite effect on him. If I didn't know any better, I'd say he looked disappointed when I gave it to him. Even I noticed the difference in scent as I removed the lid. Unfortunately, it is currently difficult to find...that is without paying approximately $11 for the catnip and another $10 for shipping. SmartyKat, are you not manufacturing the original scent any longer, causing it to be so scarce? It'd be an absolute shame if this were the case. If anything, please make both available for sale because you know what "they" say: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I feed 2 cats of my own and 5 community cats. Most of them have more or less liked catnip in the past at least sometimes, depending on their mood, but this new kind was a hit like none other. My 2 were both rolling in it, and several of the outdoor ones who can be pretty nonchalant stopped eating what I'd just fed them to scarf down this catnip instead.
