Questions & Answers

What is the iodine content of this feed (how many mg.)? The nutritional analysis does seem to contain an iodine supplement but perhaps some of the other ingredients do contain iodine.
Answer by ChewyMay 07, 2021
This formula has approximately 1.85 parts per million of iodine on an as fed basis.

Do you have anything smaller than 50 lbs so I can see if my horse will like it and tolerate it? I'd hate to have a bag of feed he won't eat. Right now I have feed he's been eating for a year and he's decided he doesn't like it anymore.
Answer by ChewyMar 18, 2020
At this time, this horse feed is only available in a 50-pound bag.

Do you really feed 2 lbs per 100 lbs of weight? So, recommendation for a 1000 lb horse would be 20 lbs a day? That's almost a half a bag! Even 5 lbs is a lot for grain for an average horse not in work, so please let me know. Thank you!
Answer by ChewyJan 22, 2020
It's recommended to feed Stabul 1 at the rate of 0.5 to 2.0 pounds per 100 pounds body weight depending on age of horse, condition, performance level, and reproductive status along with good quality roughage. This formula has been specially designed for horses, ponies, and mules who have chronic health issues like Cushing’s disease, founder, or colic.

Horses loved

Horses loved smell/flavor - but their water consumption dropped drastically and they all started looking VERY unhealthy. I would NOT recommend this feed - but Chewy's customer service is simply the BEST.

Good Horse Feed

I ordered this feed for a horse with Cushing's disease as she needs low starch & low sugar feed. She eats it readily. Good source of nutrients to balance her hay. Recommended safe feed by the ECIR group. Not easy to obtain this brand of feed so hopefully Chewy will continue to sell it. The Stabul horse treats are also good.

Healthy treats.

I'm feeding this to my horses a bit each day to see how they like it, so far so good. The nuggets have become a staple all horses like them but I reserve them for the horses that have a weight problem.

One of the few truly low starch low sugar feeds

Most low starch low sugar feeds that are touted safe for metabolic horses truly are not. They list the NSC totals....they are usually 12% and above. To truly be safe for IR or PPID horses the combined ESC+Starch has to be 10% or below. And many truly are not "tested". This feed meets the criteria and is tested and they list the ESC + Starch and not simply "NSC". If you are looking for a carrier feed that is safe for your Metabolic horse this is truly safe.
