I bought these treats before because my mare needs low sugar/no sugar treats. The first bag was received in acceptable condition. Unfortunately, the most recent bag was received with 80% of it in crumbles. I add it to her food a little at a time, but not what I had wanted for a treat and not what is pictured in the window of the bag in the picture online. It may be difficult to tell from my picture, but most of the bag was comprised of crumbs the size of the pieces on the left side of this container.
I use Stabul 1 equine feed and absolutely love it, as does my horse. I was using another low sugar treat through smartpak but I decided to give these a try for something different. The price is good for the amount you receive but they are very dry and very hard. Tough chew for my 21 y/o horse. Not a strong/good peppermint smell but he eats them. Will probably not purchase again. Still love their feed.
When my mare was diagnosed with Cushings and IR, I was looking for a treat to meet her needs that could withstand her slow feed ball and keep her busy. I put a few in her ball each day and she just absolutely loves them. It keeps her busy for a while and I know they won't hurt her. Please keep making these!
My mare has PPID & EMS so no more peppermints for treats. She loves these peppermint flavored nuggets. I also use them to give her Prascend, which is seemingly quite nasty tasting so needs masking. The nuggets work quite well.
If she could, she would say the nuggets were delicious.
I bought these for my older gelding who has Cushings and insulin resistance. I avoid hard treats for his old man teeth, but he has no trouble with these; they crumble easily enough to chew fairly easily. They are about the diameter of my thumb and half the length, so a couple is a satisfying amount. They are also tasty. My other horse is an older Thoroughbred mare who is extremely picky (won't eat apples or a lot of commercial treats, like the Manna Pro wafers), but she loves these.
I have wanted to try these with my PPID/IR horses because they are under 10% sugar/starch. My old pony has a hard time chewing but has no problem with these.
