are these sourced from grass-fed beef as the dinner patties are?
Answer by ChewyApr 08, 2022
Stella & Chewy's Single Ingredient Treats cannot be considered cage-free or grass-fed, at this time.

Since freeze drying does not kill bacteria, should kitchen safety practices be used when giving the treats made with raw meats, such as immediate hand washing or sanitizer use?
Answer by ChewyMay 21, 2023
When feeding your pets their diet, we always recommend washing your hands after serving. Stella & Chewy’s has a unique food safety procedure to ensure the safety of their raw products. The most powerful step in this procedure is their high-pressure processing (HPP) step—this is a cold-water pressure process that effectively eliminates harmful bacteria from the food. They use this process on all their raw products, regardless of the protein. As food-borne bacteria can be present in any type of meat, we feel that incurring the extra cost of HPP for all our products is the responsible thing to do. This way, pet parents can rest assured that they are always bring a safe food into their home. Additionally, HPP is the only reliable method for maintaining the wonderful raw nutrition of their products while still removing harmful pathogens. We then send all batches to be tested for pathogenic bacteria – nothing leaves our facility without negative test results in hand.

is the meat sourced from the USA? if not, where?
Answer by ChewySep 15, 2022
All of Stella & Chewy's ingredients come from suppliers we know, and trust and all our meats come from USDA-inspected facilities (or similar inspection agencies outside the United States) that do not allow floor waste, sick or euthanized animals. The animal proteins they use are responsibly sourced and always grass-fed, cage-free, farm-raised, or wild-caught. Stella & Chewy's pride themselves on using proteins from farms that believe in the humane treatment of their animals.

Best Treat

Just wish I had tried them for my Anam Cara years ago. At 17 she had lost all interest in eating anything, and although these are treats and not meals, she ate them with such gusto that I gave her all she wanted until they were gone.

My dogs loves this.

I like these because they don't have any additives. My dog has allergies and I have been restricting what she eats in order to find out what she reacts too.

Tasty but Smelly

These treats are a favorite with our puppy but they do have a bit of a strong meat funk smell. Good because you know they are all natural but don NOT put your nose too close to the bag haha.

Just fat...

This is my second time ordering this freeze dried beef heart treat. I order a lot of Stella and chewy products but this one by far was the worst. Half the pack was only chunks of fat! I found out when i squished it. And it was soft like butter... Chunks of white greasy fat! I figured a little on some are ok but he had already ate like 20% off the bag and realized pretty much the rest of the pack was just squishy white clumps of fat. Won't be purchasing this one anymore. Feels like it was scraps that they put in here and called it treats.

Doggie crack!

My little Yorkie mix goes crazy when he sees the bag! He's tried taking the bag under the couch but thank goodness he wasn't able to open the bag! Now I'm buying it in the 2 bag bundle.

20 year dog mom

I've bought this product before and found it great, but not this time! maybe it was just a bad bag, but for the most recent bag I got, at least 80% of the pieces were all or mostly *fat*. Gooey, dense, *extremely bad for schnauzers* fat!! Overall this can be a very good product, but schnauzer parents and dog parents of other pets highly prone to pancreatitis, please, please, be extra careful and take a second look before giving your dog any pieces! I managed to salvage some pieces by slicing off most of the fat so they were still safe, but most of the weight of the bag had to be trashed. It's such a shame because my dogs usually love these treats so much. I just can't take the risk, though, especially with my senior girl. I might try to get one more bag, but I don't have high hopes and this time I'll try to remember to take pictures.

Great treats

Charley lives these and I live that they are as simple as they can be and come in slightly different sizes, for different levels of reward
