Please note these are guidelines as individual requirements may vary +/ - 50%.
When transitioning from a cooked food such as kibble, you should go slowly, typically transitioning over 7 - 10 days. Most people start with the following guideline and then adjust the timeframe as needed: Days 1 - 3: 25% Stella & Chewy's along with 75% current diet Days 4 - 6: 50% Stella & Chewy' along with 50% current diet Days 7 - 9: 75% Stella & Chewy's along with 25% current diet Days 10-Forward: 100% Stella & Chewy's It’s important to remember that some digestive upset is normal during a transition —this typically shows up in diarrhea, constipation or (very rarely) vomiting. This will eventually subside as your pet adjusts to the new food.
Is Stella & Chewy’s appropriate for puppies?
Yes! Stella & Chewy’s dinners for dogs are designed to be complete and balanced for all life stages—this means they’re great for puppies, too! They do meet AAFCO standards for complete and balanced nutrition across all life stages. You can use any of the products—either freeze-dried or frozen, any flavor. You will, however, want to introduce them slowly—a typical transition takes about 7 - 10 days. Puppies do need more food than adults at the same weight. Feed up to twice the amount recommended on feeding guidelines.
** Where are Stella & Chewy’s ingredients sourced?**
All Stella & Chewy’s ingredients are responsibly sourced - NEVER with ingredients from China. The meats, poultry, fish are antibiotic-free and have no added hormones. Beef, Lamb and Venison are sourced from North America, Australia and New Zealand. They are grass-fed. All fruits and vegetables are 100% organic. They are all sourced from North and South America based on seasonal availability. The vitamin and mineral mix we use our products is formulated for us in the United States—the individual components are from the US and Western Europe with Taurine from Japan.
What are the sharp things I’m finding in the freeze-dried and frozen foods? Aren’t they harmful?
Stella & Chewy’s adds raw ground bone to all dinners as it’s an essential part of a raw diet. The bone is safe and highly digestible when raw. The bone is ground with a 3/16” grind plate—this means the bone could appear up to approximately 1/4” in size. The bone in the diet is ground to that size because of the health benefits it provides. A carnivore’s teeth and body are designed to consume bone—especially raw bone, like the bone used in each S&C meal. If it’s ground to a powder, it doesn’t have as many of the benefits. While it may feel sharper to our fingers, a carnivore’s body is designed to consume and process the bone effectively and safely, as long as it’s never cooked, heated, or microwaved.
What food safety procedures does Stella & Chewy’s follow?
Stella & Chewy’s has a patented food safety procedure to ensure the safety of every product. The most powerful step in this procedure is the high pressure processing (HPP) step—this is a cold water pressure process that effectively eliminates harmful bacteria from the food. This process is used on all products, regardless of the protein. As food-borne bacteria can be present in any type of meat, Stella & Chewy’s feel that incurring the extra cost of HPP for all products is the responsible thing to do. This way pet parents can rest assured that they’re always bring a safe food into their home. Additionally, HPP is the only reliable method for maintaining the wonderful raw nutrition of our products while still removing harmful pathogens. All batches of food are sent to a 3rd party testing facility to be tested for both Salmonella and E.coli and Listeria—no food ever leaves the plant without negative test results in hand.
How do you prepare Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried foods for dogs?
Freeze-dried Dinners and Mixers for dogs can be fed dry or rehydrated prior to feeding. If you choose to use the products dry, please be sure your pet is drinking plenty of water at mealtime. If your pet isn’t a big drinker, or you’re afraid that they may not get enough water, then rehydrate the food with cool or warm (never hot) water prior to feeding. If fed dry, the food can sit out for up to 12 hours prior to discarding. If fed rehydrated, the food can sit out for up to 2 hours.
Can I feed my pet more than one flavor of Stella & Chewy’s?
We do suggest rotating proteins every 2-6 weeks. This means you would feed one flavor consistently for 2-6 weeks, then switch to another flavor for 2-6 weeks, etc. This is a great way to give your dog variety and to help keep protein-based allergies at bay.
Can the Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried and frozen foods be cooked or heated?
Stella & Chewy’s products cannot be cooked, heated or microwaved. Doing so removes much of the nutrition. Additionally, we add raw, ground bone to our products as it’s an essential part of a raw diet. Raw bone is incredibly safe—however when bone cooks, it can become brittle and can splinter. Cooked bone is never safe for animals.
What is the shelf life on Stella & Chewy’s products?
Stella & Chewy’s foods have an expiration date of one year past the date of production. It is suggested to use our products by this date, or within a few days after. Much past that and we would recommend discarding the bag. Freezing or refrigerating would not extend the listed shelf life.

Innovative Food
Safety Technology
Food safety is always a concern, especially with raw foods. Stella & Chewy's takes every precaution with their SecureByNature food safety process that's recognized by the USDA and FDA. The ingredients undergo a special, 100% natural cold-press process that creates water pressure similar to that found near the ocean's floor. No harmful bacteria can survive, and there's no heat to damage nutrients and diminish flavor. Each batch is tested by an independent lab, and the results are even posted online for you to see.
About Stella & Chewy's
The story of Stella & Chewy's starts with two lucky rescue dogs named Stella and Chewy—and Chewy was a pretty sick pup. Their new pet parent, Marie Moody, started both of her new family members on a raw diet, and she watched them thrive. Eager to bring the same amazing prey model diet to other pets, Marie soon developed innovative food safety measures to create her own version of raw pet food—the Stella & Chewy's frozen and freeze-dried dinners and mixers that you know and love.

awesome product but maybe purchase elsewhere
By tammy on Feb 1, 2019
When I opened this product, I was disappointed by the lack of dried fruit. It constituted maybe 5% of the whole bag. However, my puppy loved the chicken meal mixer so I liked it, too. BUT- I recently ordered this same product from another site and I was shocked to see that there was an even mixture of the chicken meal mixer and the dried fruit!!!! There is SO MUCH dried fruit in the new bag I purchased.. The one I received from chewy.com should not even be considered "Superblends."

Food Topper
By Hershey on Feb 7, 2019
I was picking at my food, Mom was worried that I would stop eating. She found Meal Mixer and O'Boy is it good! I dance around the kitchen as she get it in my bowl. She says my fur is so soft since I've been eating it on top my food. I just think it's yummy!

Loves the meat, not the fruit
By Stacy on Jan 16, 2019
My pup goes absolutely nuts for the freeze dried meat pieces! I use these as treats and a way to distract her when we're leaving her home alone. However, when we first got these, I poured them in with her food and she picked out all of the dried fruit pieces and spit them next to her food bowl. Such a nuisance for her haha.

Best stuff ever
By Nicole on Dec 14, 2018
I absolutely love this as a topper for my dog. She was a free feeder and very thin. I wanted to put some healthy weight on her and someone said their picky eater does amazingly with this. I started using it and she's completely changed. I haven't changed her food and only put a small amount on top with a a splash of water and she eats her entire breakfast or dinner in one sitting. She looks healthier, her fur is shiny and more radiant than I've ever seen. She's excited for meals now. Every. Time. Shes more regular with her bathroom schedule and never has accidents anymore because she actually has an eating schedule.

WahWah! "Nope! Not this one either, mom!"
By MissMolly on Dec 4, 2018 Top 1000 Contributor
Our neighbor has a small breed dog who's a picky eater like our Molly. She RAVED about how her dog wouldn't touch dry dog food until she bought this to top it. Well...Molly won't eat the dry OR this! She smelled it & walked away. Usually she'll go back & at least TRY a bite when she sees she's not getting anything else. Nope! Not this! We've tried twice now. Once with water.....once with chicken broth. And, as dog food goes, it even LOOKED pretty good to us! You can see the chicken, berries & veggies! Didn't smell OVERLY "dog foody" either. I have been cooking for Molly, but now she's getting picky about things I've been cooking since we got her last year! You give in & feed her "something"! … more

My dog Charles has a sensitive stomach but was still able to eat these and enjoyed them. We received a bag of these treats free for our honest review.

Exceptional
By Funcountry on Jan 25, 2019
I have a very picky 11 year old toy poodle. Have not been able to find anything she would eat very well. She digs into this meal mixer like she hasn't eaten in a week. Very pleased with the results.

Not enough info
By Shu47 on Jan 23, 2019
When ordered thought would be more sprinkle. Does breakup easily. I put on top of dry with no fluid added. Dogs do like! The quantity shown to feed would cost a fortune if used only this!

Yummilicious!!!
By Stella on Nov 1, 2018
My baby has had the same food over the last nine years. However when I heard about chewy.com from my neighbor I started to explore their products. I could have gotten the same food but decided to step it up and give her something even more exciting. She inhaled her first bowl and has continued to do so since I started a few weeks ago. I actually chose this particular brand because of her name and it sounded absolutely amazing. I videotaped her eating the first bowl as she was so excited. Will try and send it in a separate email or attach it.

He's eating kibble again
By Sharont14 on Dec 13, 2018
My 14 pound doodle goes CRAZY over this meal topper! After a few weeks of kibble he gets bored and decides he doesn't want to eat anymore. A small scoop of this and some warm water and he gobbles up ever last crumb! No more wasting massive bags of kibble and my little pup is so happy!
