Did not work for us.
Just recently bought two of these suits for my dogs to wear after they were neutered. After the first day of wearing them, both of my dogs found a way to get to their incisions through the inside part of the leg. We got the correct size for both dogs but when they laid down they figured out how to open the side. We tried to make shift a diaper from a t-shirt to go under the suitical suit but that did not work as they both chewed through suit once they already knew they could reach the incision spot. These suits should definitely have back leg sleeves. We wasted money on these for them to be torn up and into their stomachs within a day after their surgery. Just get the cone.
SO less stressful than an E collar
We have an older border collie who needed abdominal surgery. She is Very visual with strong herding instincts. She literally would not move with a clear E collar on. Our niece had used a recovery suit on her young Golden and was a huge fan. It works by keeping them from licking the surgery area. It works Very well. Our girl is a lean thirty six pound nineteen inches tall dog and is twenty one inches from neck to tail. I debated between the Small Plus and Medium. From the reviews I ordered the Small Plus. It was Too snug for my comfort but realized we did not have time to return and get the Medium. It fit slightly loose in the groin area so we just snipped the neck on both sides which allows for more length. It worked excellent for a stressless recovery.
beats a cone or collar all to pieces
I love this and so does my dog. She is free to move around and not bump into everything like happens with a cone. I also have an inflatable collar. It worked but seemed to push on her throat when she was lying down to sleep. The suit goes on and off easily. Unsnapping it for potty breaks is a breeze. It also keeps the incision clean and dry - something the cone and collar don't do. This was just what we needed. It is a little longer than I expected but that may be because I didn't measure properly. I highly recommend this for any dog recovering from abdominal surgery.
Waist is too roomy
I have a 45 lb male brittany who has been on steroids for thrombocytopenia. He developed calcinocis cutis sores from this treatment, so I purchased this suit hoping it would help us manage the situation as we transition him to a new medication. Overall, I think it will work ok but it is not the perfect solution. Our dog has short hair and an athletic build - deep chest with a small waist. I saw someone else complain about the stretch in the fabric - in our case, this is needed to make the suit fit well overall. I agree with another poster that this seems to be designed for fluffy dogs, or chunkier dogs with more belly or a wider waist. While the suit fits nicely around his back and chest, it is loose around the crotch/groin which is unfortunately the area we were hoping to block access to. We will experiment with safety pins.
Excellent Alternative to the Cone of Shame
I used the Suitical recovery suit after my dog was recently spayed. It was as effective as an e-collar in protecting her incision, and so much more comfortable. None of the emotional trauma due to the impaired senses and impaired movement that comes with the cone. Easy to put on, easy to roll-up and snap for bathroom outings. I bought two - one to wear and one to wash. It would not be protective for limb or head veterinary issues, but for abdominal and torso issues, it is now my go-to item. Highly recommend.
Lifesaver!
I bought this suit for my Bernese Mtn dog after a triple surgery and it was a lifesaver. She could not get to her belly and oddly enough.... she loved wearing it. LOL I measured from collar to butt/tail and it fit perfectly. I got a size Large. So easy for potty breaks too as you just unsnap the butt/back area, roll it up to her front legs and then when she came back in, roll it back out and resnap. Amazing concept!!!
Helpful Suit
This is the second post-op suit I've purchased for my puppy. He had a typical neuter surgery last year and recently had abdominal surgery. Both time this suit worked well to protect the surgical incision. Much better solution that the Elizabethan collar. He wore the suit with no problems. Easy to put on and remove. Purchased this second suit so there would be a clean one and one in the laundry. The suit would not work for a leg injury/surgery.
Sizing guess worked out
I waited too long to order a suit for my dog’s spay, I wasn’t sure about the sizing and had to get it right the first time to have it ready. She’s a 20 pound miniature Australian cattle dog/heeler, she’s kinda long and slender, and I was worried it would be too loose if I followed the size guidelines. I sized down per other reviews and it looks like this XXS will be perfect for her. I think it will be perfectly snug but not too tight and long enough for her noodly body. It feels like a soft and just stretchy enough T-shirt, thick enough that she probably won’t chew through it but could be thicker. The snap section for the booty looks easy enough, with a little extra snap on the tummy to keep the flap out of the way while she’s doing her business. There’s an extra little gusset sewn in down there as well which is an appreciated touch. I’m glad I waited and shopped around because it seems like this suit will be perfect.
Works Great
I ordered 2 of these for Suki's spay surgery. When I measured her, she fell in 2 sizes, so I went small since I knew they stretched. I am so glad I did. I got a size small. She is a mini Aussie and weighs about 25 pounds, is about 21.5 or 22 inches to the base of her tail, and it fits perfectly. She doesn't like it, but she is not licking or scratching. She would have gone crazy with a cone. The neck opening is snug, but it's ok. I would definitely recommend these to anyone. Just make sure you measure very good.
Amazing and works great!
I bought this for my dog who underwent a cryptorchid surgery. He practiced wearing it ahead of time so that post surgery, it didn't stress him out. This construction is great, fabric is soft and breathable. The garment has a small gusset panel inside where we put a ladies sanitary napkin so even when he licked the fabric, it absorbed the moisture and we just changed the pad out. For walks, we just rolled it up and snapped it to itself to eliminate putting it on and taking it off all day. Buy 2 suits if you can afford it so you always have a clean one on hand!
