This extract works naturally to keep water clear and is harmless to fish, plants and animals (including dogs or other animals who may drink the water).

Please reference the image for the proper dosages. Barley straw extract may be used at any time but best results have been reported by people starting in early spring when the water temperature is low. Barley straw extract should be used weekly to help maintain pond clarity.

We have had a medium sized outdoor pond with fish in full sun for about 10 years and every year it becomes green soup. I have tried various remedies (shade cloth, floating plants, barley bundles, algae clear, clumping agents, massive water changes, etc). This additive isn't the only thing we changed this year so I can't say its a miracle cure but I believe it has contributed. What we changed this year: -Religiously added this supplement every week since late winter -Increased the water flow via larger pump on our waterfall. -Two ~25% water changes (one during spring cleaning, one on accident when a line broke and the pond started emptying itself) -ZERO water clarifiers or algae killers We have perfect clarity and the fish are thriving. My filter is no longer clogging with algae. No negative effects on the plants and I have not noticed a smell as other have mentioned. The additive itself has a bit of a smell but once I dump it into the waterfall I can't smell it.

Won’t buy this again

I received the barley straw extract a couple of days ago and when I opened the bottle it smelled liked something had died. Noxious. I added a little to the pond

I received the barley straw extract a couple of days ago and when I opened the bottle it smelled liked something had died. Noxious. I added a little to the pond anyway because we’re having an algal bloom in the koi pond and were desperate. No results at all. Water still cloudy. I’ve bought and used a different brand of barley extract in the past and had excellent results. Won’t buy this brand again.
