This is like catnip for guinea pigs!

By Jody on Nov 2, 2021

My daughter recommended that I try Chewy, and this hay was one of the first things I ordered. My little boys liked the hay from the grocery store, but it wasn't in their top five favorites. When I opened the bag of Sweet Meadow Farm hay, I thought it smelled much better than the other brand. My guinea pigs agreed, because they ran at it and into it! Sometimes they just stick their heads in it, sometimes they lie down on it while they eat it, and sometimes they make a tunnel into it. They don't act like this with any other food. I've never had guinea pigs react this way to food.

    Taking chances

By Lalala on Jul 13, 2021

I wanted to buy sweet meadow farm Timothy hay from chewy, it would have been cheaper and easier. But it was not fresh at all, and my rabbits didn’t like it. Maybe some bags are fresh, but not what I got. Should I take a chance and try again? Because I have always used the Sweet Meadow brand! It seems no matter who you buy rabbit hay from, sometimes it is fresher and other times not so much!

    Picky Rabbit Approved!

By GingerBunny on Jun 24, 2021

Our rabbit is notoriously picky when it comes to hay...he is obsessed with this hay though! He loves the long, thin strands and just nibbles away at them constantly. He loves to roll in it, lay in it, munch on it, put it in his water dish to make his own Timmy tea, etc. This is the only hay he will not turn up his little nose at. I have never had a bad batch and have always been happy with the quality.

    My Pigs Love It

By Yummy on Aug 13, 2021

My guinea pigs love this hay! I put some of this in their cage at the same time as their food and they went for this. It is also easy to get out of the bag and put into their hay ball.

    Bad batch?

By Jfen on May 22, 2021

I usually throw in a bag of this in addition to the larger box purchases to qualify for free shipping. The last bag we received, however, is extremely brown and dry, has several thick, hard “sticks,” and smells strongly and terrible— like the bad/fake dried flower aisle at a craft store. Our rabbit won’t eat it. It’s the same brand as the boxes, but those are green and smell MUCH better. Maybe these products come from a different farm/supplier? Or the bag is old? Waste of money, will have to toss. :(

I really wanted this to work but it didn’t

By Patty on Jun 8, 2021

I had to stop using Oxbow Timothy Hay because they have a gorilla stomping it into the bags now and I can’t even cut it out with garden shears and gauntlet gloves. Unfortunately this Sweet Meadow brand is very brown instead of green and my bunny wouldn’t touch it even when I put banana chips, her favorite treat, in it.

    Bad reviews WHAT

By Peep on May 18, 2021

First off OXBOW is NOT Sweet Meadow! Sweet Meadow is grown in New England in Sherborn Mass.it is incredible quality hay and smells wonderful! Out of all the bags I’ve received from Chewy I have never had one bad bag! This is the hay all little animals want as they are able to nest it very unlike the finely coarse, dried out, chopped Oxbow.Sweat Meadow is providing the best quality hay in the market for our little critters!!!!

    Very Fresh!

By HeatherM on Jun 17, 2021

This hay had almost no dust or tiny bits of hay. My rabbits went crazy over it! There were some dried flowers and herby bits in it, which increased my rabbits' interest. It all smelled fresh and was easy to fill the wire ball-style feeders I use.

    Disgusting

    By Momof2pigs on Jan 29, 2021

So...I'm forced to start trying other hays due to Oxbow changing their packaging and turning hay time into a nightmare. This came and I was surprised at how brown and dead it looked, opened it up grabbed a hunk and it's just that, long brown dry stringy hay, lots of small pieces that wouldn't stay in a hay tray, OH and dirt, literally clumps of it! It smells bad too but what do I know, I'm not a Guinea pig so I let them be the judge. Their tray was empty so I knew they were hungry and they always get excited at hay time. They took a whiff and went to the opposite end of their cage! I tried hand feeding some pieces to them and they wouldn't open their mouths, it was like trying to feed a dog a So...I'm forced to start trying other hays due to Oxbow changing their packaging and turning hay time into a nightmare. They took a whiff and went to the opposite end of their cage! I tried hand feeding some pieces to them and they wouldn't open their mouths, it was like trying to feed a dog a brussel sprout! So I shoved it back in the bag, retrieved their Oxbow (which has been transferred to a trash bag) and they were happy, eating it like crazy. So, I'm at a loss, I either need to keep trying other brands or stick with what they love and deal with the horrible new packaging. To make a long story short, NO I would NOT recommend this hay! … more
