Questions & Answers

Is this new “ancient” line chelated like the other Taste of the Wild foods? Is the salmon farmed or fished? Is it tested for mercury? Why is it smoked, is that nutritionally beneficial or just for taste? Thank you!
Answer by ChewyOct 24, 2019
This formula uses chelated minerals. Taste of the Wild uses a blend of wild caught and farmed salmon to promote sustainable fishing. All of the fish that are used in their foods are low mercury species. They utilize a rotisserie process to add flavor.

Not for my dog

My dog really likes Taste of the Wild normally, but most of their options are grain free which all vets are now saying is horrible for most dogs unless your dog has a specific condition. I switched to this one from the grain free option since I knew he liked the brand, but he has not stopped throwing up ever since. He is eating leaves and licking the couch and doing anything he can to make himself vomit. I will not be buying this again.

My dogs have been on this food almost their entire lives and never once had an issue! I tried switching to victor as a cheaper option, and switched right back as their coats, stools and all around health wasnt there same being off of TOTW. I will ALWAYS recommend this brand to my clients asking what food to switch to. I will never try a different brand unless recalled.

Large Breed Meals

The Great Pyrenees dog is a magnificent breed. Many think they are big eaters. They are not. They have a slower heart rate and only eat at regular feedings or if free-fed, will eat small amounts during the day if needed. If not, they just leave it. So far, Taste of the Wild has been a big hit and his coat is sparkling. I tried the Bison flavor and currently the Salmon. He likes both. If he is happy, we are happy!

Amazing for allergy-prone dogs

This the ONLY food that my 3 year old Cavvy can eat without vomiting, have diarrhea, etc. She is insanely sensitive to everything!! This is the only brand that actually sits well with her and it is a God send. She's allergic to chicken and they have completely chicken-free options which is amazing. They also have a salmon-based kibble WITH grains. Everywhere else I've looked, salmon kibble is always grain-free.

Pretty good

We switched to this product a few weeks ago. It was an easy transition, my pup LOVED it from first bite. While I was looking for kibble with different protein sources, this was one of the few I found that didn’t have Chicken or Beef mentioned anywhere in the ingredients list.

Looking for food without chicken!

Our 6 y/o Presa Canario was having skin issues and it was suggested to avoid chicken products. We looked into several brands and types but it seems like most products have some form of chicken. I've used Taste of the Wild products before but first time using their ancient grains. Our girl has had more pep in her step. She's been more playful. It's been only a few days, so we're waiting on skin improvement. Our dog loves the taste and asks for more.

Allergy

Two dogs loved it other dog had a reaction to it. A rescue dog owner suggested this food because his dog was doing well on it. His dog had a really shiny coat. My golden retriever had a reaction in her throat. She seemed to cough after about ten minutes after eating it.

Caused issues with skin and digestion.

Purchased this food because it was potato free, legume free, pea free however it caused soft stools, itchy skin and weight loss. Dog improved immediately with a brand and protein change that included more healthy ingredients.

Happy Healer

Our Blue Healer is much happier after switching to this from Victor HiPro. He is a bit gassier, but his coat looks better, his poop is perfect (an issue before), and he seems perkier overall. Totally worth the occasional stink bomb. :-)

high quality, good value

Typically buy my dog the kirkland signature dog food, with something from Chewy on occasion. Kibble pieces are smaller than the kirkland brand. Good price especially if you have a coupon or the like. If your dog can't have chicken and you don't want other weird fillers, this is a good option.
