Transition Instructions
When changing to Taste of the Wild, we recommend making a gradual transition over 7-10 days to help avoid possible digestive upset in sensitive pets. Add a small amount of new food to your dog's previous diet, gradually increasing the new and decreasing the previous diet until the transition is complete.

Questions & Answers
33 Customer Questions
Is this new “ancient” line chelated like the other Taste of the Wild foods? Is the salmon farmed or fished? Is it tested for mercury? Why is it smoked, is that nutritionally beneficial or just for taste? Thank you!
Answer by • Oct 24, 2019
This formula uses chelated minerals. Taste of the Wild uses a blend of wild caught and farmed salmon to promote sustainable fishing. All of the fish that are used in their foods are low mercury species. They utilize a rotisserie process to add flavor.
I realize this product contains grains, but is it wheat free?

What is the digestability?

Taste of the Wild formulates their recipes for a digestibility of 86%-88% for all varieties.
Our 2 year old male Shiba Inu was having a lot of GI issues and wouldn’t settle on a dry food. He is an extremely picky eater. He was below weight with runny stools and his coat hadn’t developed- no matter how hard we tried. I took him to the store where he got to smell every single bag of dog food. We spent a half hour carefully picking out which food he liked the best and he settled on TOTW ancient stream smoked salmon recipe. I bought a small bag and started to transition him onto the food. He absolutely loved it! Within 4 months on this food he has successfully gotten rid of his runny stools, his coat has filled out, and he has gained weight. I couldn’t be more grateful for this formula. It’s done wonders for my Neosho.

Gave my dog gas
I do/do jot recommend it. I am partial to it, but its not right for my dog. I have a blue heeler and I did the right thing and SLOWLY transitioned foods.. he upgraded from puppy to adult.. I have used taste of the wild in the past with my other dog. But holy cow it's giving my dog the worst gas, it's been a month now and has not gotten any better.

Tasty, but be prepared for the storm
Both of my dogs love Taste of the Wild. One of my dogs will eat anything, the other is very picky. Both dogs are naturally gassy pitties, and the Taste of the Wild stink bombs we’re getting to be a bit too much for me. I switched them to another brand, which they both loved, but it ultimately upset my picky eater’s stomach, and she didn’t have solid poops for months. I’m now switching them back to Taste of the Wild, and they both love the salmon flavor. The gas is already kicking up again and they’re not even fully transitioned. But, I suppose it’s worth it for two happy, otherwise healthy dogs.

Good for sensitivities!
Love that this food is good for a sensitive dog while still including good grains. My dog is 10 lbs and does well on this food. She doesn’t fuss to eat it like she has with others in the past.

He is Healthy
I have been feeding my German Shepard Taste of the Wild dry foods (all different verities) since he came off the bottle (I hand fed him since 3 weeks). He is very healthy at 8 years old Nov 1st. Just as a precaution I just started giving him an 8 in 1 vitamin. So far he has been very healthy.

So far so good
He sends to like it, recommended fish recipes by vet so i got this to try. He likes it so far but I do need to add moisture like broth or his stella and chewy toppers fur a treat. His itchy skin doesn't seem as itchy. And it's less expensive than the Orijen I was buying.

Tough to convince our dog to eat
We got our dog a few months ago, and have been trying different foods to figure out what works best for him (doing a 10-day transition between newfoods). We won't be continuing with this one, as it seems our dog farts more with this food. We also had a bear of a time convincing him to eat this! We eventually figured out that adding a bit of water to the bowl worked like a charm, so we think it may be too hard on his teeth. The vet has said his teeth are good, and we haven't had this issue with other foods. Otherwise, our dog seems like he has a good amount of energy and doesn't mind eating it with the water added.

Dogs didn't like it
We have been chasing our tails trying to find a chicken-free dog food that our dogs would enjoy... this isn't the one. In fact, they refused to eat it unless we add Greek yogurt or something to make it more palatable. #SadDoggies :(

The 5: All 3 dogs LOVED it and ate it all up. I didn't even need to doctor it up for my picky eater to finish it. It is also chicken free, which is nice for my allergic to life AmBull. 5*!
The 1: The aftermath is pretty bad. 3 of 3 tummies were upset. One human nose was very upset with all the rancid farting and squishy soft poops. I transitioned from the previous food as recommended but it didn't help. I switched them back to the old food with no transition it was so bad, and they are all doing much better.
It wasn't a great fit for us, but they did like it so maybe if your dog will have better luck?
