About Taste of the Wild Dog Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE

Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES

Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES

Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

How is this considered grain free if it has canola (corn) oil in it??

Answer by ChewyApr 10, 2018
Canola Oil is derived from the Rapeseed plant which is not a grain.

Where does the salmon come from that they use to make this product?

Answer by ChewyMar 26, 2024
The salmon is sourced from Norway and South America. Due to concerns over sustainable fishing, they use a blend of wild-caught and farmed salmon. It comes in without any artificial preservatives.

Does Taste of the wild outsource ingredients outside the USA.

Answer by ChewyAug 14, 2018
Taste of the Wild has five manufacturing facilities, all located in the United States: two in California, one in Missouri, one in South Carolina and one in Arkansas. Taste of the Wild uses some ingredients that are not USA sourced. The lamb from New Zealand, lamb meal and venison from Australia, duc k meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to the formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China.

My dog kept having ear infections and the vet suggested changing foods. I remember a dog I had in the past was very allergic to chicken. I had to buy puppy food and tried this by mixing their other food. Then, I went straight to this food. I think they kind of miss their other food but he's doing much better. They like it now.

We are on day 5 of using this new kibble after switching from Royal Canin French Bulldog Puppy. If you have a frenchie you know how gassy they are, but starting on day 3 Novas gas did not clear out the room or make you sick. No more stinky gas and that is a HUGE win for our family. She also loves the flavor and size of kibble along with it being nutrient dense and more added protein/less fat.

I have fed this food with success to both of my German Shepherd Dogs. While I am pleased overall and rate the food 'four stars', I have asked about Glyphosate and PFAS/PFOS batch testing results and gotten no response. Given the low cost to test the food for these contaminants, the obvious carcinogenic health implications and the ability to differentiate the product as a superior option, it seems to be a missed opportunity and the reason why I haven't given a five star rating.

Unfortunately this food did not work well for our dog. He had diarrhea for 4 days. Put him back to his original flavor and he had normal stools again. Unsure if it was this batch or the salmon in general. He does fine with blues salmon treats.
