About Taste of the Wild Cat Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be cheetahs or lions, but today's domestic cats share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium fish and meats like smoked salmon, trout, ocean fish, roasted venison and chicken. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pet feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a cat's GI tract. The proprietary Viables probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your cat gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your kitty will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your little wildcat just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from smoked salmon or ocean fish, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Questions & Answers

Why do you use chicken meal as your primary ingredient rather than the venison/salmon combination of real meat that makes up the title of the food? Can you explain exactly what chicken meal is? What is the source of your chicken?
Answer by ChewySep 18, 2017
Chicken meal is a dry, concentrated protein source while salmon and venison is a wet, lower protein ingredient. Using chicken meal as the first ingredient helps meet the guaranteed level of protein in the finished product. Roasted venison and smoked salmon are included in the name of the formula as it highlights some of the more unique protein sources and flavors in the food. The chicken meal ingredient is locally sourced from Arkansas and Georgia.

Is the fish meal processed with ethoxyquin?
Answer by ChewySep 26, 2017
Taste of the Wild sources all protein meals (chicken meal, fish meal, etc) from vendors that do not use ethoxyquin. As always, they do not use ethoxyquin in their manufacturing process to preserve the foods.

Video states food is made in USA, are all ingredients sourced here as well? Some foods state made in USA but with imported ingredients and we all know what that means.
Answer by ChewyMar 03, 2018
Taste of the Wild has five manufacturing facilities, all located in the United States: two in California, one in Missouri, one in South Carolina and one in Arkansas. Taste of the Wild uses some ingredients that are not USA sourced. The lamb from New Zealand, lamb meal and venison from Australia, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to the formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China.

My Cats' Favorite!

I give my cats, (my Kids) 1/2 can of wet food twice a day, and I keep Taste of the Wild available all day to supplement their diets with grain free dry cat food. I am finding that they prefer the Taste of the Wild to the wet food. They are both very healthy, playful, and some-times mischievious. They are very happy and I believe that they almost prefer the Taste of the Wild to their wet food. But they love the gravy part of the wet food also.

Good Dry Food for Older Cat

This is the only dry food that our Office/Hanger Cat will eat. I had been purchasing it at my local Tractor Supply Store but now it is impossible to get it through them! So glad to have found it on here at Chewy! No more hassle and our cat is happy!

Great quality

My cats have been on this for years because it has high protein. I’ve had no problems and I have 7 cats. It’s hard finding a brand you trust, but for me, this is all I’ve got for now. I look for one with the least recalls as well. Although this has gone up $6 a bag everywhere recently. Kinda bites…. Especially when you have a million cats.

My healthy cats love this food

I have SPHYNX cats and got this suggest from the breeder for the first cat. Now I have two cats and that is what they eat. They LOVE it! And would eat it all day if I let them. It is high quality food, I love the smell! My Vet advised me to feed the Hills Science diet which I tried for a bit but always had this one in the mix. I eventually stopped wasting my money on science diet as my cats are super healthy, at a healthy weight and are like the beat cats ever!

It's a hit!

We have 6 cats. One is on a special urinary diet food, and one is allergic to a number of common ingredients found in many cat foods. We recently had to change dry foods because of a shortage of the other brand. Amazingly, the 5 cats who are now eating Taste of the Wild Rocky Mountain dry food all love it! Of course our kitty with the special diet feels like he's missing out. I'm so grateful we could find another dry food our allergic cat can eat that everyone loves!

So delicious!

Mom got this in, and I couldn’t wait for the other flavor to finish up. I wanted this flavor so bad I started to eat it through the food bag, which I’ve never done before!

Chewy Coupons

I've been buying all of my pet food from Chewy for the convenience. The cost is a little more than buying it locally. Chewy does offer several coupons so far that have made the cost the same or a bit better than locally. All products have been delivered in a timely matter and packaged well.

well… I guess not for my cats

I bought this food because my cats normal food keeps going on back order. This diet is high protein, low carb, moderate fat - which is rare to find in a cat diet these days. That being said - my cats don’t like it. Even my cat Kevin, who will eat ANYTHING, will only eat a portion of his meal and then stops eating. So, it was kind of a waste of my money. But if your cat will eat it - it should be a good diet!

Does the trick

Our cat is previously a feral cat, now extremely spoiled and domesticated. He also has FIV which causes him to have stomach issues. This is the ONLY dry food we have found that he can tolerate. We have tried so many different brands. The grain-free and byproduct free aspect really helped!
