About Taste of the Wild Dog Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE

Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES

Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES

Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

I needed chicken-free kibble, and this was one option. I happened to transition my dog to this kibble. Last weekend, I rushed my dog to the emergency vet. He has developed severe heart problems, specifically dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and fluid around the heart. The vet informed me of a link between pea protein and DCM. I am incredibly frustrated that neither Taste of the Wild nor Chewy lists any warning for foods that contain this ingredient. If I knew of the correlation, I would have never selected this food. Now, my dog has major health issues that are not curable. I will never use this food again.

My 9year old has been on TOTW since her adoption at age 1. I do tend to rotate flavors and rotate between grain-free and Ancient Grains versions. She’s healthy and no heart conditions. My other pup has severe food allergies, so the past 2 years I’ve stuck to the grain-free fish or lamb versions just in case the sick dog should get hold of a piece of her kibble or lick her bowl. (But she does know better and is very good about only eating from her own bowl.) I’m going to start rotating in a bag of Ancient grains every other shipment just to help reduce any concerns of 100% grain-free diet risks. Our Boxer lived to be 15 and was on ToTW most of her life as well. She did have some heart issues controlled with meds, but still lived to be 15, which is very old for a Boxer.

I've been feeding Taste of the Wild dog food to my Jack Russell since he was a new pup 13 yrs ago. When the Vet saw him last month they marvelled at his health and overall condition. On appearance, he looked more like a 6 yr old than 13 and his weight is perfect. The Vet asked what I was doing to keep him so healthy. All I had to offer was our only feeding him Taste of the Wild.

I ordered this by mistake but, my dog reapplied it and it seemed to correct a digestive issue he’d been having. He did well for over 2-weeks. Then a couple days ago he got diarrhea quite bad. I have changed my next order to the bison, thinking the lamb may be a bit too rich. In the meantime I have him on a bland diet of pumpkin and baked potato. I have read others’ comments that had the same issue.
