'Maintaining your Filtration System
Changing the Filter Cartridge: 1. Open the system's Carbon Filter Access Door and lift out Carbon Filter Carrier. 2. Hold Carbon Filter Carrier above Carbon Filter Access Door for a few seconds to drain water. Then invert Carbon Filter Carrier at a 45-degree angle and carry to waste bin. 3. Squeeze Carbon Filter Carrier Handle to drop dirty Carbon Filter Cartridge into waste bin. 4. Insert clean Carbon Filter Cartridge into Carbon Filter Carrier (blue-colored floss should face the front). Drop Carbon Filter Carrier into system and close Carbon Filter Access Door.
Cleaning the Bio-Scrubber Insert: Note: Do not dispose of the Bio-Scrubber Insert unless it is damaged. It is a permanent part of the filtration system and not meant to be replaced or disturbed. If your Bio-Scrubber Insert should ever become clogged as evidenced by restricted water flow or water flowing over the top of the Bio-Scrubber Insert, follow the procedure below.

Keep your system running smoothly with Tetra filters.
I already owned this filter and was buying a replacement because the old one wasn't so quiet anymore. It's always prudent to have a back-up unit, as well. Installed this filter and it was beautifully quiet...for about 24 hours. These do the job but they do have an annoying hum that is not tied to vibration against the tank.
Ordered January, and by early April it already stopped working. I read the reviews, hoping it may be a one-off that some didn’t work, but no. The filter is simply not quality and doesn’t hold up at all.
I've enjoyed tropical fish since I was a kid and have gone though several filters along the way. Preference always given to HOB filters. The Tetra EX Whisper series outclasses them all in terms of cost, ease of use, durability, design ( particularly placing the enclosed motor within the water column ) which, in effect, makes this the quietest HOB filter in the marketplace, bar none. I have five of these at work, replacing larger Emperors and others. The media space also allows one to customize what media you actually prefer. I'm not particularly keen on review writing but the superiority of this unit was just too compelling.
Title says it all. I installed on a 40 gallon tank that's in our bedroom. It keeps the water crystal clear, but it is definitely not "whisper" quiet! Today, I ordered another eheim canister filter to replace it because I can't deal with the motor noise while trying to sleep. We have an eheim canister on the other tank in our bedroom and it is much quieter. I'm going to use the tetra whisper on our quarantine tank that's in another room. This filter would be great in a room where the extra noise isn't a problem.
I really like this filter it’s easy to use and runs nice the only thing would be that pressure can put ur fish at unease for a while
This is absolutely JUNK how do I get a refund from chewy or return
Just stopped working out of no where. Walked past the tank one day and realized it wasn’t making any noises. I just bought it a month ago. Not recommended for a 50 gallon tank.
I cannot explain but my filter to my aquarium died after 5 years! I have had the same fish since 2015 that ae a communal and have been growing in love. I cannot believe that I ordered the replacement filter .....got it the NEXT DAY!! its as if they really understood the importance of receiving this item so that the fish could continue to live in a clean tank!! HOW FATS can you GET?? CHEWY FAST!!!
Worked great until it randomly stopped working today. I unplugged it for every water change and set it up properly.
This filter only survived a couple months then just stopped working it's all I can afford so I had to order a new one
