Is the seafood wild caught or farm raised?

Answer by ChewyDec 08, 2022
Tuna is wild caught in the South Pacific Ocean. Wild Alaskan Salmon is the only salmon found in any of their formulas. Sardines and Mackerels are both caught worldwide by Purse Seining, but Tiki Cat ensures there is no ocean floor dragging to provide an eco-friendly food supply. Tiki Cat sources their products primarily off the coast of Thailand. Seabass and Tilapia are raised in aquaculture farms that provide them with a sustainable, ecofriendly food source raised in Thailand. Prawns and Baby Squid are wild caught off the coast of Thailand with small Purse Seins by local fisherman and are commonly found in every local farmer's market. Crab varieties are locally caught off the coast of Thailand, they primarily use a blue variety of Purtunus. For vitamins and minerals, Tiki Cat sources ingredients globally from pre-approved sellers to provide the highest quality ingredients in their foods.

Cat loves this food so much. Way better protein content than most foods. I avoid a lot of chemicals that make me sick irl, and now after watching out, I realized a lot of mainstream foods have them in them (Mostly because everything is owned by the same people) So hopefully, after this review, the company who bought them out doesn't change the ingredients to add unecessary chemicals and reduce the protein content, because I will quit using it immediately.

Recently adopted a cat, he was using another brand but didnt seem to like it. I did some research and found that Tiki Cat was a top brand for more affordable food that is still quality. Transitioned him to Tiki Cat, now he has not issues eating and will chase me when its time to refill his bowl. He also really likes the lick stick treats.

Something changed and no cat eats it

My two cats have been eating Tiki Cat Born Carnivore high protein dry food for years. I switch between the deboned chicken formula and the chicken, herring & salmon

My two cats have been eating Tiki Cat Born Carnivore high protein dry food for years. I switch between the deboned chicken formula and the chicken, herring & salmon. They used to prefer this one than the deboned chicken. Somehow this time none of them wants to eat it. Something must be changed.

A healthy food

I would give it a 5, but my cats aren't always interested in eating it. They're not particularly food driven, unless it's can, Temptations, or the squeeze tubes

Definitely changed since the buyout

Ever since I got my first cat Clementine in 2019 I’ve been feeding this tiki cat dry food as the base diet for my cats. I’ve been very loyal to this food and it has been my holy grail. They used to thrive on this food. Since early May however there has been a big difference. In hindsight these differences started when I bought a new bag of dry food around that time. We’ve had an increase in health concerns things ranging from unexplained gastrointestinal upsets (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, gut inflammation) that send them into food strikes. To an increase in hairballs and gagging. To unexplained weight gain when all of them have had steady weight and diet for over a year. Respiratory upset in all of them probably due to how much they were vomiting and increasing asthma attacks in my cat Clementine. We’ve had to use her rescue inhaler more in the past few months than ever. My cat Peaches was super itchy and pulling out clumps of fur. All four cats have seen the vet multiple times this summer. Labs, fecals and all test come back normal. Minus Xrays showing their bowel inflammation and aspiration pneumonia. We treat and get a few days of reprieve then it all comes right back. All the while I’ve been switching things in and out trying to find the culprit. Come to find out tiki cat was bought out by General Mills early this year. I swap to a different brand of dry food and cut out tiki cat from my wet food rotation completely for the first time ever and within days my cats are back to normal again. General Mills is the devil I swear. I’m so sick and tired of these good brands selling out to these food giants who have no souls. I have no idea how they do it but they’ve ruined this brand in less than 6 months of ownership. They claim to have “not changed the ingredients” (doubt it) but I raise the question have you changed where you’re sourcing them to cheap out? I bet that’s a yes. I will not be touching this entire brand again. I can’t afford the vet bills. It sucks because they have such a wide variety of options for wet food.

My kitties had really slowed down on their normal food (this). Then my boy wouldn’t eat it at all. I checked and he had went from 16lbs to 14! OMG! So I looked it up - yep, acquired by General Mills a while back, and different ingredients. (sigh) So I had to go out to the boutique pet food store and spent $80. on different brands to find a food that was still independent and using quality ingredients. Luckily, I think I’ve found good options (crazy expensive), but what’re you gonna do? Boy’s slowly gaining weight. I hope there are no lasting effects from the months it took me to realize what was going on. I wish that the fate of good products wasn’t so predictable.

Best Food

This is the only food my picky cat will eat. Great ingredients, low carbs, and high protein for my aging bestie.

What Stood Out Was How Ordinary It Was

Seemed rather dry and colorless; blah looking, like it would have little taste. Cats reacted to it with indifference, they may not have finished the bag. Overall,

New Food Tried

Seems to be good and cats eat it. Have not used it long enough to know how healthy it is.
