The Equine 12-8 Mineral is a vitamin and mineral supplement that does contain salt. It will maintain mineral balance with grass or grass mixed hay.

What form of vitamin E or source is the added vitamin E?

The Vitamin E in the 12-8 mineral is synthetic, as the natural vitamin E would not be stable in this sort of mineral mix. Natural Vitamin E is more bioavailable to the horse but synthetic is readily absorbed and supports the horses Vitamin E status as well (more stable).

Is this heat stabilized flax seed?

I have 5 equines and have had most of them for almost ten years. I have had various salts and minerals for them over the years and they barely ate any except the plain salt block. I thought I'd try it so when I got it, I opened it up, and I'm not going to sugar coat it, this stuff smells pretty terrible(to me). I thought, there's no way they are going to eat this. I couldn't be more wrong. They have never eaten any mineral with such zeal. I've had it for over a month now and they have been going crazy eating this. I have to refill their mineral feeder every few days. I'll never switch, I'm happy they love this and seemed to be needing a change.

I have been using this product for over a year now in addition to regular diets and pasture, and hay in the cold months. I have seen a dramatic difference in hoof quality as well as beautiful skin and coat with prompt heathy shed out in the spring. Very pleased and much cheaper than most hoof and coat supplements doing the same job and more. Horses love it also.

After reading other reviews I was concerned about picky eaters refusing feed that’s top dressed with minerals. Zero issues though! I have several horses that I add directly to their feed, and some pastured and it is offered free choice. Nobody has refused their feed, and I am refilling pasture tub regularly. It is not golden as pictured, but darker and grainy (like most horse minerals). It’s a good product and will stay on my auto ship.

This is an excellent way to offer free-choice mineral supplements without having to worry about the molasses you find in the normal blocks. It also offers a much more comprehensive blend of minerals than the usual trace mineral salt blocks. My guys went through the first bag pretty fast, but they quickly self-moderated with the second bag. I now keep 1 bag on autoship and adjust the delivery as needed based on when my guys finish off the previous bag.
