The sifting tray sits directly on top of the bottom pan. The litter box comes with two base pans you so can transfer the litter back into the box once it's cleaned.

sifting not so good

this item looks very good unfortunately the quality is not the best, I already owned a sifter from arm&hammer that is very good, but this one is flimsy and unstable I ordered it because of the extra cover for the sides but truly is the same size as the arm&hammer, I'll will use it as a spare

What a great concept! The sifter works well, but I'm also scooping because the pan is inside the "Frisco Soft-Sided Dog, Cat & Small Pet Exercise Playpen," which I am also reviewing.

Was more work than scooping

Ended up returning it. Very messy when pouring out poop and urine, litter would get every where . Also urine would seep through mesh to the bottom of pan so I had to use scooper to scrape it off. Took more time to clean than my previous litter pan.

Best sifting litter box on the market!

If you're looking for a good sifting litter box, this is the best one! I wish I had found this sooner. It works incredibly well for clay litter or pine litter. It has saved me so much time and effort. Best litter box ever! I have multiple cats in my house and these work so well. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. It is truly the best, you will not be disappointed. Chewy also offers it at such an affordable price. This is the only sifting box I will use for my cats. If anyone is complaining about clay litter clumping on the sift pan, all you have to do is place a small piece of wood or plastic to hold the pan up so the clay litter can go through. I personally love pine litter but this works with clay litter or pine litter. It has saved me so much time cleaning the boxes. This is also what my local animal shelter uses as well.

Works alright with pine litter

Got it to use with pine litter. It helps me to sift out the litter that's been peed in. Kinda annoying to lift and dump the tray and difficult to scoop poop without scooping pine litter. Not the perfect solution but helps to sift wet litter.

No as expected

My 2 kittens still get litter all over the place even with the higher sides, litter catcher mat, and 2 throw rugs. I don't know how they do it.

Works well until it clumps

I really like the idea of this litter box. It works well until the litter clumps, then it doesn't sift the litter at all.
