Holes right size for wood pellets, but...

    By on

It is impossible to find a suitable commercial ready-made litter box for the wood pellet litter. Someone who finally does will have the market cornered. It is very tedious to try to create your own out of storage containers and a drill! This box comes close but it is too small for adult large size cats and taller sides would be a big plus. Even small cats prefer bigger boxes. You don't need one of the bottom boxes for the pellet litter system, so you have an extra as a spare or you can donate to someone who uses regular litter. Some people use a foam pool noodle. … more

Fine for Neo-Natal Kittens with Feline Pine. Too small for bigger cats

    By on

I bought 2 of these to use with pelleted litter that is an absolute must for neo-natal kittens. They were able to use it right away and it is perfect for them. Yes, the sifting is a bit of a chore but the tiny bits of solid waste do separate nicely and are easy to scoop away after without picking up tons of the clean litter. I also tried the second one with my bigger kittens (5 months) and cats (1 year and 11 years). It's just too small. To call this a large litter box is completely erroneous. It's fine for tiny newborns and works well for them but a complete failure for bigger cats as they tend to make mess and miss.

Nice little sifter for pine pellets

    By on

Two of our four older kittens took to this immediately. First I created space between the sifter and bottom pan by gluing 4 - three inch long pieces of plastic piping as feet for the sifter. I use the extra pan for baths : ). Pan-potty pad-sifter- pellets- kitten is the order. The disintegrated pellets fall onto the potty pad and are disposed of weekly. Solid waste is removed daily.

    get creative

    By on

So, this box is easy to make a mess when cleaning. The litter will go everywhere. I put more litter then normal & filled more frequently to avoid clumps in the strainer & then having to toss it. Well, iordered another one & i use the sifter as a scoop replacement. I use my normal litterbox then pour that into this box, toss the trash then pour the litter back in the regular box. Its so much easier than using the hand strainer and less invasive.

    Not for playful kittens

    By on

Wirecutter said to stick with high-sided litter boxes, but I felt adventurous and figured we might as well try different styles if we truly needed to buy three boxes for our 11-week kittens. The kitties repeatedly made huge messes with this box (and neither of the others). I've already ordered a second Litter Genie unit-- that one is easier to clean and does not end up with piles of litter everywhere.

Perfect with pine pellets; wish it was bigger

    By on

I wish this box came in a larger size but that's my only complaint. I use it with pine and paper pellet litter - I put a layer of pellets on the bottom to soak up extra liquids and then 2" above the holes. This works perfectly with Feline Pine pellets and it works OK with paper pellets (which don't dissolve like pine). I want to test it with the Breeze pellets, too.

Great for pellet litter, but small!!

    By on

We just got a new kitten... and I knew I was planning on using pine pellet litter, so I read lots of reviews and many reviewers said this box was great for that purpose. I am pleased at how it works so far! Solid waste and whole pellets stay on top (for the most part) and disintegrated pellets fall through the holes into the pan below when you lift and shake the sifter. Some larger pieces will fall through as well, but for the most part, it’s just the urine filled dust falling through. No smell either (other than her really stinky “fresh” poops!! Lol). I have a very sensitive nose, which is another reason I hate perfumed litter... but I have experienced ZERO urine smell! To put it into perspective, I’ve included a picture of my 9 week old kitten in the box. If this thing was larger, it would easily be 5 stars for me. PS- If you haven’t already heard this tip... get the “Pelletized Bedding” meant for horses and small animals at most feed stores. I paid $6 for a 40lb bag, as compared to $13 for the 20lb bag of Feline Pine from the same place!! … more

    No longer a chore

    By on

I used to put off changing the litter box, much to my cat's dismay, because it was such a hassle. This set up is so easy and efficient. The litter box is just the right size for one cat. I can now clean and refresh the litter box in a fraction of the time. I'm so happy I got this item ... and my cat is too!!

    Complete Nonsense

    By on

This litter box takes twice as long to clean as my regular old boxes. The whole sifting idea is cool in theory, but in practice, you have 2 landing trays, and once you sift and switch, the bottom of the landing tray is covered in litter and then gets on the floor. I'm probably not explaining this correctly but I don't even use the sifting "feature" - I just took out the sifting tray altogether and used the landing trays as 2 separate litter boxes, instead. That being said, I did not buy mine on Chewy. Love Chewy, hate this contraption.

    up to the fill line!

    By on

I've had this litter box for 2 weeks or so now. It's been great, the only thing I have to say is that you MUST fill the litter up to the fill line. If you don't the cat pee will stick to the bottom of the litter box and you ultimately either have to use your old scooper to clean it off or some gloves and paper towels. Other then that my cats have no problem with it (2 cats both around 9lb)
