How big are the openings? I have pallet litter .25 inch thick. Would this scooper work to allow the pallets to fall through the openings?

This scoop has slots measuring approximately 5.5 inches long and 1/4 inch wide.

game changer

I got new cats and was trying out Dr. Elsey's litter. It clumps really well (except when the clump touches the side of the box and has not been allowed to dry long enough; but that's for another review), but it was taking FOREVER to scoop with my old plastic scoop. Shaky-shaky-shaky... ugh. (Because the litter particles are relatively large.) I was also concerned whether the plastic one was going to hold up under the weight of Dr. Elsey's, so I went looking for a metal scoop. Got this style sort of by chance (the reviews were pretty good), and WOW, it makes the job quick. I kept the plastic one with the narrow slots for picking up little bits that get left behind, but this thing kept me from giving up on Dr. Elsey's. My old-lady hands have not had any discomfort from the handle.

Efficient but Uncomfortable

It’s a decent scoop only because of its cheap price (currently $6) and efficient sifting. Unfortunately though, the handle is cumbersome and actually painful to wield. It’s an imitation of another metal scoop I have but has failed in replicating their ergonomic design. In both photos, the original is on the left, new scoop on right. You can see how much wider the new handle is, and even that the metal isn’t smooth and polished. For me, it’s worth the extra $$ for comfort, especially since these metal scoops will likely last a lifetime.

This is really TOO big

I saw some reviews indicating how big it is but I ignored that and wanted to try the stainless steel version... turned out I couldn't even use it. Please read the size and really make sure you'd be comfortable with this before purchasing! I wish I had taken the time to return in time too. Otherwise it looks sturdy...

Best litter scoop ever

The reason that this is the best ever is that it does not clog the way that standard ones with holes do. Litter flow is much better and faster because of the large open area. The order came on time, safely packaged.

Van Ness scoop

I love this scoop! It's strong enough to get to the bottom of the litter box. Picks up all poops and urine easily. I have read review complaints of the handle painful to use and I can see how it could be. I used a cover for the handle of cast iron pans. I tapped some duct tape around the open end. Works great! I would recommend this product.

Great scooper for a great price.

Had a scooper for over 10 years until the welds busted. It was 1/3 of the size of this and more rounded but worked awesome. When it broke I ran to a local store and could only find a huge, heavy metal one that cost much more than this and I hate it. It's heavy and the handle bends when using. It was not worth the cost at all. When I saw this on Chewy, I added it figuring if I didn't like it, it's cheap enough that it could be a back up. I love it. You don't even need to sift with this one. It just drops all the loose litter upon picking it up. The only thing I'd like more is if the tines weren't so far apart and if they had alternate tines going the opposite direction to pick up any of the small pieces. Overall though, highly recommend as the effort it takes to use this is minimal and it doesn't take as long to clean one box - and I have 4 boxes to clean twice daily.

Get the scoop.

I read several reviews before buying this metal kitty litter scoop, and I agree with those that say it's noticeably easy to use, compared to any plastic scoop. I disagree with those who say the handle is uncomfortable (although it's not exactly ergonomic). I'll add that it seems very durable and cleanable; and I like to avoid contributing to plastic in our landfills and oceans whenever possible.

great for wood pellet litter

I recently switched to a sustainably sourced wood pellet litter-- and my only complaint was that the pieces are almost too big to sift through the scoop that I had-- it required a lot of shaking and sifting to not be wasteful. This scoop, however, works perfectly with that litter-- cuts my scooping time in half, easy-peezy. Seems durable and solid, will probably last a lifetime.

Very efficient but painful to hold, definitely not for grannies

This scoop is extra extra large and quickly sifts out waste, making litter scooping super efficient. The handle is uncomfortable and sometimes even painful but I’m willing to use it anyway because it makes litter box cleanup so easy and fast. This scoop will be difficult or impossible for people with very small hands, any kind of pain or weakness in the hands or arms, arthritis, frailty, etc. because the metal handle is so wide and uncushioned. Imagine steel pressing into your hand bones. For reference, I’m an average size woman of average strength and I struggle a bit with it, but like I said it is worth it for me.

The scoop is wonderful!

Like others have noted, the handle really needs a cushion, though I think I could craft one out of foam and tape. I tried it as soon as it came and it's perfect! All the non-clumped litter fell immediately out of the scoop making it so fast and easy to clean the box. Being stainless steel means it won't easily rust, no paint to peel off, won't bend or crack, and will be easily rinsed outside and set to air dry.
