I have fed Victor Hi Pro before and for the most part my dogs did well on it. What I'd like to know is why it doesn't have any Glucosamine or Chondroitin in it for joints? Also I like to rotate proteins now and then. What food does Victor make that could be rotated with HI Pro Plus?

Hi-Pro is a multi-protein formula (beef, chicken, pork, and fish meals) so I’m not sure how well it would fit into a rotational protein schedule. If you want to rotate proteins you might check out Victor’s Select line which are single protein formulas. I personally have fed the Select Beef and liked it. For glucosamine I personally like supplementing with Cosequin or Dasuquin. I hope this helps!

How many cups of food are in each size bag?

There's approximately 4 cups in every one pound of dry dog food. The 5-pound bag holds about 20 cups, the 15-pound bag holds about 60 cups, the 40-pound bag holds about 160 cups and the 50-pound bag holds about 200 cups.

Poor quality control practices from Mid-America pet food.

I ordered this kibble Feb. 2025 and upon opening the bag, I noticed large amounts of black hair (likely cow). I received 3 bags with the same lot # and best by date,

I ordered this kibble Feb. 2025 and upon opening the bag, I noticed large amounts of black hair (likely cow). I received 3 bags with the same lot # and best by date, and they all contained large amounts of hair. I contacted the manufacturer who was quite shady and wouldn’t directly answer my questions. They stopped answering emails, and I received a phone call from the plant manager, who told me “during this time of year when cows have a thicker coat it’s harder to remove the hair” which shouldn’t be a problem considering the kibble shouldn’t contain any hide. The manufacturer has been reported to the FDA for the possibility of including hide/hair in their products. This is in no way Chewy’s fault and they have been very helpful in regard to this situation.

Upon opening the bag, the first thing I noticed was an unusual scent—somewhat reminiscent of Play-Doh—which was unexpected and a bit off-putting. One positive aspect is the kibble size. The pieces are relatively small, which I truly appreciated, as I have dogs of various sizes. This makes the food easier to serve across a mixed group without needing adjustments or concerns about chewing difficulty. However, palatability was ultimately the deciding factor for my household. While a few dogs ate it without issue, others showed little interest, and some refused the food altogether. None of my dogs appeared particularly enthusiastic or eager at mealtime,

Great food for my active dogs!

My two dogs, Parker and Belle, are high energy cattle dogs who are always on the move. The VICTOR Hi-Pro Plus 30/20 food is an excellent option for Parker and Belle! This VICTOR dog food has a higher calorie content than many other foods we have tried, which provides my dogs with their dietary needs and keeps their tummies full and happy. This food does not have a strong smell to me, but my dogs both loved it and left me with clean bowls. The kibble size is fairly small, I would consider this to be suitable for any size dog. Overall, this is a great food for active dogs who need a higher calorie meal.

I have given my dogs Victor kibble in the past and they did very well on it and seemed like they enjoyed the taste of the food. I have not tried the 30/20 high protein

I have given my dogs Victor kibble in the past and they did very well on it and seemed like they enjoyed the taste of the food. I have not tried the 30/20 high protein formula, so I was excited to add this to their current meals. I am topping their meal with a handful of this food, and they definitely enjoy it as no food is left behind. My dogs are high energy and in sports, so this food is a good addition to what I am currently feeding them.

Firstly, my dogs loved this… so that’s saying a lot! I tend to lean toward high quality kibble with meat as the first ingredient. This slightly misses the mark leading with beef meal instead. Kibble had little to no aroma, and was much darker than the kibble I normally feed, a very very dark brown in color. Not sure I would order again just due to my personal feelings that it isn’t at the same level of quality as I normally feed, but not everyone is willing to pay a premium price for dog food, and with the high protein content and fact thst my dogs liked it, this would be a good choice.

I am slowly introducing this to my 8 month old German Shepherd with his current kibble. He is an extremely active dude to say the least. So far so good and he is not picking around the Victor for his normal. I haven't noticed any change in his stool. Time will tell. I have always heard and read excellent reviews for Victor and have fed in the past with no issues for the dogs. The only problem I have is cost when you have four large dogs it can be more pricey than others, which is a major consideration. That being said if money was not an issue, I would not hesitate to feed Victor.

Bad Batch? Formula Change? Made Dog VERY Sick.

The one star is for the food NOT Chewy. We have used Victor High Pro Plus for years since our dog was a puppy. The bag that was delivered on 10.3.25 had a different smell, similar to the smell of paint upon opening a paint can. Our dog became sick with diarrhea, vomiting, and refused the food. This also happened to my dog during the last Victor Recall. We successfully resumed with Victor after that recall was resolved. However, I am concerned now that something is off- quality of ingredients, manufacturing and handling practices, quality and safety oversight? Chewy Customer Service was excellent when I recently called about the concerns. There are many similar reviews and concerns about Victor High Pro Plus on the Chewy site alone but nothing yet on recall watch sites. Hoping the manufacturing company of Victor looks into these concerns and responsibly resolves it again.
