Questions & Answers

8 Customer Questions

My cat is now 14 months old. Should she still eat kitten food?

Answer by ChewyJun 22, 2018
Cats should be fed adult food once they reach one year old. The exception would be larger breed cats, such as the Maine Coon, which do not reach adult maturity until they are 18 months to two years of age

Can adult cats eat this food?? I bought “kitten” food accidentally?

Answer by ChewyMar 11, 2018
While kitten food tends to be higher in calories, protein and fat, there is no actual danger in feeding this food to adult cats.

Where are the ingredients sourced? What temperature is it baked?

Answer by ChewyJun 09, 2021
Ingredients are primarily sourced from North America. WellPet has one of the most strict sourcing criteria of any pet food manufacturer. All ingredient suppliers, whether domestic or international, need to meet certified nutrient levels and be manufactured in quality audited facilities. While there are many high quality ingredients available in the U.S., in some cases there is not a readily available U.S. supply. For example, Venison, Lamb, Rabbit and Salmon Meal are sourced internationally from New Zealand, Australia, Italy and Chile respectively. Wellness dry kibble is cooked at 300° for approximately 30 minutes.

What is the carbohydrate percentage of this food? It would be handy if this was listed on all pet foods. It would also be handy if you had a “compare” feature which would make it convenient to shop by nutrition needs.

Answer by ChewyMar 15, 2021
This variety contains approximately 20.08% Carbohydrate content on an as fed basis (21.83% on a dry matter basis).

Quality of ingredients and fresh smell when package is opened.

My cats really go for this food and their furry little coats look shiny and feel soft. They seem to digest this food quite well.

Good stuff

I usually feed my cats wet and dry food from Fromm. I decided to give wellness a try and they love it. I’m happy I made the switch.

I've purchased Wellness for years. My kitten loves this. He's very picky with food and eats Weruva & Tiki Cat wet food - which have whole real bits of food - so it says a lot that he likes this dry food. Recommend! Seems universally palatable. I've had it for three cats now and they all loved it.

The customer service representative was very helpful.

I feel feeding kittens good food when young and growing is important for their adult life health. I soak some of the dry food in hot water then add 1/2 can of the Wholesome wet kitten food.. This last them all day and then do the same for evening. They have alot of energy and play non stop with their littermates. Nap time and they go into a crate with a towel covering the front. Then play time again. I live in the woods so I observe falcon shadows flying over and the dog barks and they run for cover. They are so tiny, you really have to watch over them. The food is making them strong and they have no fear of romping and leaping non stop. they are so fun to watch.

Kittens still learning

As they get a bit older, 5 months old this week they are starting to like it more. Not too interested when younger.

I like really Wellness brand, but not this kitten food. I foster 20-40 kittens a year and have bought this food numerous times for foster kittens since it goes on sale, I like the brand and it has good ingredients/high protein, but they never ever like it and the adult cats don't like it either (normally my adult cats go crazy for kitten food). Kittens I have feed it to don't seem to thrive on this food - probably because they don't like it. Also this food goes bad soon after the best used by date (by 2 months) - I got several on sale and they were close to expiration date and before I opened/used them they were bad and smelled foul and rancid - the racoons and possums wouldn't touch it. It also seems to go stale quicker than other cat foods I have used after opening & I store cat food in airtight containers. I would recommend the wellness core kitten food over the wellness Complete Health since kittens have fostered liked it better - plus it has more protein.
