Weruva Classic Cat Foods

Weruva Classic Cat Foods are made using high-quality ingredients like boneless, skinless white meat chicken and hand-flaked fish loins. With ingredients you can see, these recipes deliver hydration-focused nutrition that’s rich in protein and low in fat.

Specifically Formulated for Cat Health

Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they only need meat and water to survive. All Weruva recipes are formulated with this in mind. The calories in each recipe come from three places: protein, fat and carbohydrates. The calories from meat are comprised of protein and fat with minimal, if any, calories coming from carbohydrates.

Hydration Focused Recipes

Hydration through meat to meet the needs of your obligate carnivore. Weuva Classic Cat Recipes are all natural, with no grain, gluten, carrageenan, corn, wheat, or soy.

Human Food Standards

Weruva pet foods are made in a state-of-the-art human food facility that caters to many countries, each with its own processing standards. Weruva proudly earned an “A” grade on The British Retail Consortium (BRC), which is one of the strictest standards.

About Weruva

What type of fish is a big redeye?

Answer by ChewyJun 06, 2018
The Priacanthidae (bigeyes) are a family of 18 species of marine fishes. "Catalufa" is an alternate common name for some members of the Priacanthidae.

are the fish tested for heavy metals level? Fish is utilized in many of the formula Weruva produces are they tested?

Answer by ChewyFeb 26, 2021
Fish will have some level of mercury, and Weruva does test for mercury, histamines and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). Yet, not all fish were created equally. In a nutshell, the lower on the food chain, the younger and smaller the fish, the less mercury the fish will have. Weruva uses fish that meet the FDA’s list of those lower in mercury. There are many species of tuna, some of which have high levels of mercury; Weruva uses skipjack, a smaller and younger species that has lower levels.

Could you share the phosphorus, sodium and calcium content of this variety on a dry matter basis?

Answer by ChewyJul 04, 2025
This recipe has a phosphorus content of 0.32% on an as-fed basis and 1.57% on a dry matter basis. This recipe has a sodium content of 0.11% on an as-fed basis and 0.51% on a dry matter basis. This recipe has a maximum calcium content of 0.25%.

What is the iodine content on as as-fed basis?

Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2024
At this time, Weruva does not test for iodine. Weruva targets AAFCO minimums for iodine which is 0.6 mg/kg on a dry matter basis for cats.

Harvey's favorite Weruva

Whatever it is about this food, our cat loves this kind more than any other fishy Weruva. He never fails to eat it.

This was an experiment to see what my cats would (or wouldn't) like

Once you begin feeding your cats some of the Weruva flavors, you come to realize that there are virtually dozens of different flavors with fancy catch-phrase names

Once you begin feeding your cats some of the Weruva flavors, you come to realize that there are virtually dozens of different flavors with fancy catch-phrase names such as "Mideast Feast,," or in this case, "Polynesian BBQ." The thing is that you won't know if your cat will like a particular flavor from Weruva. We've tried close to 10 different Weruva flavors (all in the 5.5 oz cans because we have 4 formerly feral - but now 4 spoiled indoor cats), and our cats didn't care for most of them, which I found odd. However, two of the flavors that they do seem to enjoy are the two I mentioned above - those being "Polynesian BBQ" and "Mideast Feast." Doing pet food reviews is tough because you realize that just like humans, our pets have different tastes and preferences, and so it is with the Weruva line of cat food flavors. So any review becomes subjective. I'm still in the process from time to time to see if they'd like a different Weruva flavor (among those we haven't tried yet), because as I said, this brand seemingly has dozens of flavors - all with those catchy, slick names. So why didn't I gave this Polynesian BBQ flavor the full 5 stars. Well, it's because although my cats enjoy the food, they won't finish it off, and there's always some left over. Now mind you, I'm talking about feeding two of these 5.5 oz cans at a meal for 4 cats. The flavor they love the most and polish off all of it is the "Mideast Feast." So there it is. When it comes to Weruva products, you may have to experiment a bit (trying different flavors) to determine what your cat(s) will like best. Although it can become expensive because the Weruva brand isn't cheap.

So sadly my cat had to change his food because he has chronic kidney disease stage 2, but before he had to switch, he was obsessed with the different Weruva fun

Consistency of the food itself.

I think there was a bit too much gravy in each can. It makes it less appealing to the cats to eat mostly liquid meal.

Opening the crate, a carton of 12 cans was wet.

One can broke open, and everything was covered and very stinky.
