I was looking for a dental chew that contained low amounts of protein so I bought these for my senior dog. But these were way too hard for him to chew, especially since he doesn't have many teeth left. These also changed the texture of his stool, so I've stopped feeding these to him. They're not as easy to break as Greenies, but unfortunately those have too much protein for my dog.

I bought these only once because I didn't realize they take significant chewing capability. They would have been great when my senior dogs were earlier in the golden years and still had most of their teeth and better tongue control. Always remember to keep an eye on pets when they have an extended attention treat/chew because choking is a real hazard. I was so glad I'd learned the heimlich maneuver for dogs and that my dog was a mini doxie so it wasn't hard for me even as an elderly person myself to pick my dog up and use the maneuver to dislodge the chew when he had begun to choke on it. We gave the rest of the bag to a friend with a much younger dog who still had all of her teeth and was capable of safely enjoying a chew of this type.

We always buy the gator-shaped Whimzees as we’re from Florida, but Bandit doesn’t care - he likes these knot-shaped chews just as well.
