DNA Test Kit.
OPEN SWAB SLEEVE – Peel back the edges of the swab sleeve about 1 inch (not all the way) and remove swab by holding its handle. Do not touch the bristles. Save the sleeve to place the swabs in for mailing.
COLLECT CHEEK CELLS – Firmly roll the swab’s bristles between the inner surface of the cheek and gums for about 15 seconds for each swab. NOTE: DO NOT let your dog eat anything or share a water dish with other dogs for about an hour before you do the test.
AIR DRY SWABS – Insert swab handle in the hole of the carton insert and allow swabs to dry for about five minutes. Repeat steps 1-3 for the second swab.
ACTIVATE YOUR KIT –Activate your kit online. Fill out all the information, check it for accuracy and submit. You will receive an Activation Code Number that you need to write on the back of your Sample ID Sticker.
REINSERT DRY SWABS – Reinsert both dry swabs into the protective sleeve they came in. DO NOT reseal as this can cause bacterial growth.
SEAL THE CARTON – Place the sleeve with the swabs back into the carton it came in and seal.
MAIL TEST TO LAB – Pre-paid shipping label has already been placed on the carton. Simply seal and place with the outgoing mail. See your report online in approximately 2-3 weeks
I was hoping to get a really detail history of my cat, but I guess they just confirm your cat is a purebred or not and it there is any history of illness. I was really apprehensive of using their test, because of seeing some reviews were it was really off. But mine matches. Guessing theirs was just human error. There is always some human error in science. Feel more comfortable using it on the rest of my breeding cats.
My cats results indicated in traits that she has a long tail with no short tail variants detected. My cat has zero tail! None of her litter mates had tails either. none of the breeds they provided were tailless breeds either. This is not possible. After additional research I found they have an F rating on BBB for similar complaints.
The results I received were "100% American Domestic Cat". I believe this would be obvious to anyone who looked at my cat. Researching American Domestic Cat the description includes "they are the "mixed-breeds'' of the feline world". I thought the DNA test would provide which breeds my cat is a mix of. Over $100 down the drain!
I bought this as a gift for my daughter who has three "rescue" cats. We've used the Wisdom Panel for dogs for our own two rescue "poodle/terrier mixes" It was fascinating to see the breeds of which they were a part. My daughter can't wait for the results for her three girls.
It was pretty simple to set up the kit, even though my cat makes it hard to put anything in his mouth I was glad the swabs were small.
It was a cool test to see where our shelter cat came from and to get information about health/traits. We didn't learn anything surprising, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Collecting the sample was a bit of a process, but I made my cat into a purrito, took the swabs, then gave her a treat.
This started as just plain curiosity and developed into so much more. I work in the pet industry, and have been witnessing the increasing longevity of pets lifespans. Having reviewed test results from other vendors, I was completely blown away by the extensive, in depth results we received for our cat. Every piece of information telescopes into detailed origins and explanations. You can absorb just the percentage of your pets breed DNA representation, or you can follow an entire prospective lineage tree of where those breeds derived. There are also very detailed descriptions of any genetic predispositions. I was thrilled with the level of competency, but then was completely blown away when I received an email that I could have a brief conversation with a Wisdom Panel vet about a genetic predisposition my pet showed. This truly reflects the overall passion this team has for educating and supporting the consumers and their pets. I highly recommend Wisdom Panel! Take advantage of this opportunity to grow your knowledge and truly provide your pet with the best care based on their makeup.
After getting what we thought was our Bengal tested (NO Bengal), we also had our Tux & Tabby tested and found some very interesting results. We felt they were very detailed results and we received them in a reasonable amount of time. THANKS very much!
Maybe I'm just stupid, but the cover to the kit does not include the activation code. The company puts the activation code on the part that gets mailed to them. So activate your kit BEFORE you send it to them.
I'm extremely happy with the results. I did this more for the genetic health tests. The results were incredibly fast. Cats unless purebred are generally nuts/Domestic cats. It's hard to get their breeds like a dog. I think if people are looking for something for just the breed information for a non-purebred mix, it might be disappointing. My cat visually is a Munchkin cat. I did know my cat had a purebred mix mother, I was surprised to find my cat's Mother was a Sphynx Mixed with a (Main coon x Ragdoll). Her father was the Munchkin, which apparently was a 100% American Domestic Cat. I got the genetic answers I was looking for. I was wondering with her purebred heritage if she was a carrier. She unfortunately was a carrier for a common genetic mutation for a Main Coon.
