Description

Zeniquin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is prescribed to treat multiple kinds of infections. It treats infections of the skin, soft tissue, and urinary tract and is also effective against bacteria in other parts of the body. It comes in a tablet, so you can feed it orally or slip it into a pill pocket to excite your furry friend.

Uses

Zeniquin (marbofloxacin) tablets are indicated for the treatment of infections in dogs and cats associated with bacteria susceptible to marbofloxacin.

Possible Side Effects

Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences increased thirst, soft stool/diarrhea, behavioral changes, shivering/shaking/tremors, and ataxia.

Drug & Food Interactions

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your dog or cat is taking before starting Zeniquin.

Precautions

Marbofloxacin and other quinolones have been shown to cause arthropathy in immature animals of most species tested, the dog being particularly sensitive to this side effect. Marbofloxacin is contraindicated in immature dogs during the rapid growth phase (small and medium breeds up to 8 months of age, large breeds up to 12 months of age and giant breeds up to 18 months of age). Marbofloxacin is contraindicated in cats under 12 months of age. Marbofloxacin is contraindicated in dogs and cats known to be hypersensitive to quinolones.Quinolones should be used with caution in animals with known or suspected central nervous system (CNS) disorders. In such animals, quinolones have, in rare instances, been associated with CNS stimulation which may lead to convulsive seizures. Quinolones have been shown to produce erosions of cartilage of weight-bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species. The use of fluoroquinolones in cats has been reported to adversely affect the retina. Such products should be used with caution in cats. The safety of marbofloxacin in animals used for breeding purposes, pregnant, or lactating has not been demonstrated.

FAQ

What is Zeniquin?

Zeniquin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is indicated for the treatment of susceptible infections. This medication fights infections of the skin, soft tissue, and urinary tract but it is also effective against bacteria in other parts of the body. It is given orally (by mouth) and is available with a prescription written by your veterinarian.

How does this medication work?

Zeniquin is an example of a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. These antibiotics work to kill susceptible bacteria by inhibiting DNA replication.

What results can I expect?

Signs of your pets infection should begin to dissipate and your pet should start to feel better. It is possible to see some improvement within two to three days but results and the length of time it takes for the infection to resolve will vary in each individual pet. It is important for your pet to finish all of the medication that your veterinarian prescribes even if your pet appears well. If the entire course of treatment is not completed, there is a higher chance that the infection will return or worsen. Consult your veterinarian if you do not notice an improvement in your pets symptoms after completing the prescribed course of this medication.

    Review - Dakota

    By on

Normally I would but my experience with customer service regarding this purchase was dissappointing. She told me that my dogs prescription had not been called in when in fact it had been called in two days before. My vet said this was the 10th person that day that said chewy told them that and it wasn't true. Now, is it possible the system had not been updated, maybe? either way it caused me more stress as i have a sick dog.

    Just in case

I haven't used it yet. I bought it because my cat has cysts. His vet said zeniquin and doxycycline were what we needed to use. So when he has his next attack I'm prepared. Great peace of mind! Thank You

    Bulldog ears

    By on

My bulldog has had ear infections on and off for years and years. My vet told me if I paid the $200 to determine which type of bacteria was growing specifically, that the correct antibiotic would cure it. Unfortunately, I am on my second round of two weeks of antibiotic therapy and her ears are still infected. Chewy was wonderful with me through this process. Very accommodating and caring. Just hoping the medicine will eventually work.

My dog was diagnosed with an antibiotic resistant skin infection. It was so bad we almost had to put her down and this was a last resort. Thankfully it worked wonders and her skin cleared.
