Questions & Answers

Where on the bottle does it say to refrigerate this?

Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2025
The Zesty Paws Wild Alaskan Omega-3 Salmon Oil does not need to be refrigerated after opening. It is recommended to store the bottle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and keep the cap tightly closed to maintain freshness and quality. If preferred, refrigeration is safe and can help extend freshness, but it isn’t required.

How do they purify their products to remove contaminants like mercury?

Why is the oil bright orange? Did dye from the bottle get into the product?

Answer by ChewyJan 27, 2021
The Salmon Oil is that color because that is the color of natural salmon oil. It is a bright amber/orange-y color. Zesty Paws does not add any artificial coloring to their product.

Is the plastic container BPA free?

Answer by ChewyOct 23, 2022
BPA materials are not used during the manufacturing process of Zesty Paws jars so they are not expected to be present in Zesty Paws jars.

Luna had what I thought was dandruff. I asked the vet what I could do about it. Vet said it was dry skin and fish oil would help it. I purchased the Zesty Paws Wild Alaskan Omega-3 Salmon Oil. My cats are free to eat whenever they want. I put 2 big tablespoons of the oil into about 4 cups of dry food and mix it up until all the food is coated. I do this for 2 bowls of food. After using a full bottle of the oil I noticed that Luna isn't dandruffy anymore and her sister and brothers have shiny, softer, fur. Also, they aren't shedding as much. I couldn't be happier with Zesty Paws.

I have ferrets, dogs and cats, and they all get this as a supplement and their coats and health reap the benefits of this salmon oil. They all will eat it straight out of the bottle, but I add it with their treats, or the ferrets daily chicken. It does help with your ferrets having dry skin and them scratching like crazy. Use this and a humidifier and you will see a world of difference.

Great product, already repurchased!

I’ve been giving this oil to my cat since October and I’ve seen major results. My cat is prone to allergies/ itchy skin and adding this oil to her food once a day has dramatically changed her itchy skin, coat, and frequency of hairballs. She is also incredibly picky and has refused other oils in the past but she loves the taste of this one!

Our 14 yo shih tzu is a picky eater and when we had to change her diet to be kidney friendly, she didn't want to eat at all. The CSR at Chewy recommended adding some salmon oil to her food so we decided to give it a try. Wow! She now gobbles her kidney food and wants more! So greatful we gave the salmon oil a try. So many benefits to this oil as well.

Unfortunately, my cats would not eat even a few drops of this Salmon oil. I assumed they would love it and had bought the biggest bottle. I would suggest getting the smallest bottle for your pet to try to be sure they will eat it. I 'gifted' the bottle to a neighbor with dogs in hopes they could use it, and the dogs love it. I'm curious to know how many cats compared to dogs will take this product easily.

Confusing instructions, poorly designed bottle

Product arrived with a pop-top on the bottle and an optional pump top packaged inside the shrink-wrap alongside the bottle. I looked forward to using the pump top to minimize mess. I discovered after I put the pump top on the bottle that it doesn't depress. I removed it, oil that was now in the tube dripped on the bottle as I took it out, and I threw the pump top in the garbage. The "Recommended Dosage" on Chewy's website is incorrect. The correct dosages are in the chart below the "Recommended Dosage" and are printed on the bottle. I'll see how my fur-baby does with this oil before deciding whether or not I'll buy it again or recommend it. I mix my pup's kibble with bone broth and a home-made topper, like turkey and vegetables. I keep the broth and toppers in the fridge and then heat them in the microwave before mixing it with my fur-baby's kibble. I'm not crazy about having to pour refrigerated oil on his warm food.

I was very skeptical about trying this product. I’m so happy I did! My dog suffers from extremely itchy and scaly skin on her belly area. I’ve been using this for about 8 months and it’s completely changed her skin! My suggestion is, keep using it. It doesn’t work overnight. Very thankful for this product!

My older cat was struggling with dry skin that would often flake and cause itching causing her to scratch frequently. I have been using this oil in her food for about a year now and have noticed a significant difference. The dry flakey skin is minimal and she does not scratch much more.I also have introduced a small amount into my new kittens diet and she loves it.This is a staple in my cats everyday feeding routine to maximize their health!

My cat was very itchy as her winter coat came in/ with light seasonal allergies, and boy did this help! He coat is softer, she’s shedding a little less, and the itching has been reduced. I mix in a drop or two with her wet food twice a day, and she doesn’t seem to mind the flavor, fair warning, it doesn’t smell great as a human, but what cat food does?

I have had no luck with this brand, all their supplements have been pushed away by both dogs. This however was different. He still ate his food with it which is great and I did notice how beautiful his coat looks (I also credit the supplement and shampoo we use) I just can NOT bare the smell. Maybe it's just a personal thing with me, I just can not tolerate it.
