Adequan Injectable for Dogs is an injectable medication prescribed to help manage arthritis and joint problems in dogs. It may also help restore joint lubrication, relieve inflammation and renew the foundation of healthy cartilage. For over 20 years, this medication has been prescribed and trusted by veterinarians to help moderate signs connected with non-infectious degenerative and/or traumatic arthritis of canine synovial joints.
UsesAdequan is recommended for the treatment of noninfectious degenerative and/or traumatic joint dysfunction and associated lameness of the carpal joint in dogs.
Possible Side EffectsSide effects are rare possible. The most common problems associated with Adequan are pain/swelling at the injection site or blood clotting problems. Decreased blood clotting can cause nose bleeds or gastrointestinal bleeding which can cause bloody stool or vomiting. Some dogs are allergic to Adequan but this is not common. Contact your veterinarian right away if your pet is acting unusual after an injection is given.
Drug & Food InteractionsAdvise your vet of all medications and supplements your pet is taking. Drugs that can affect blood clotting (ex. heparin, warfarin) and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may interact. Other drug interactions are possible.
Precautions
Pets with bleeding disorders, kidney disease, and liver disease may have a higher risk of side effects. Breeding, lactating, and pregnant dogs should not be given Adequan.

My second review
By Michele on Jan 4, 2021
I reviewed this product over a week ago - it appears Chewy did not approve it for publication because I cannot find it. The review of the product AND Chewy was good but it contained information regarding the equine version that might have bounced the review. Short version: the equine Adequan is the same medication cheaper than this product; however, it has a 30 day expiration that makes it unsuitable for maintenance injections. When your vet first puts your dog on Adequan, ask them to approve the equine version to save you money.

Keeps my Standard Poodle Active
By TallyHo on Jan 11, 2021
Great drug with no apparent side effects. I have used this drug for years with field trial Labradors and now with my Standard Poodle. She is 11 1/2 and very active. Arthritis in her back was beginning to bother her. This drug combined with acupuncture has had a very positive impact on her activity level. She is back to retrieving ball twice a day with no hesitation.

Heard great things but....
By Maxx on Nov 23, 2020
I have heard this has been a miracle med for some dogs, this was not true for mine and he did get some of the rare side effects. It was worth trying however, as I am working with a very compassionate palliative care vet, who has had success with this medication with other clients. *Not product related, but unlike Chewy representatives (who are amazing) I cannot recommend working with the Chewy pharmacy as they made me and my vet jump through a lot of hoops.*

Highly recommend purchase through Chewy for dispense. Always buying with confidence the product is authentic and reasonably priced. Also the Chewy pharmacy handles everything with the veterinarian in adequate time.

Has done wonders for my furbaby!
By Cooper on Oct 21, 2020
I have an 11-year-old chocolate lab that played hard his whole life. For the past couple of years, he's been suffering from severe arthritis in his back legs and hips and has since gone to his shoulders. Our vet recommended Adequan along with his daily 75mg Rimadyl since it really helped his own dog. I'm SO glad we did this! I will do anything for him. It took a few months, but we've seen a significant improvement in his mobility overall. He's still slow up the stairs, but he doesn't have any issues getting up off the floor anymore! He can also play fetch outside longer than he could before we got him on this medication. It's hard to give the shot yourself, but you get used to it. Canine Arthritis
By Oliver on Oct 31, 2020
This product is great for helping 12year old Ollie. He has lots of arthritis pain. The day after the shot he is spry, energetic and campaigning for biscuits just like the old days. He gets 1 ml every 2 weeks for his weight. It doesn’t last the full 2 weeks, but if we can improve some of his days. I think it’s worth it. I wonder why the equestrian dose is cheaper per ml and if we could buy the 10 ml vial instead of two 5 ml vials?

Prescription Takes Too Long to Fill
By AJRo on Sep 14, 2020
First, let me say, I LOVE Chewy and would recommend people to purchase pet items with the exception of the prescription service. I was shocked my prescription was even sent to me. I placed the order, at least, a month before you shipped it to me. I ended up purchasing more from my vet at the higher price because I ran out after waiting for Chewy to fill it. I thought Chewy wasn’t even goin to bother to ever fill it. Why do prescriptions take a month or longer to fill - that’s insane?

Didn't come with.......
By Emmalou on Nov 7, 2020
When we ordered the meds, it didn't arrive with any syringes. We had to go to the prescribing vet to get some. When I ordered the prescription I didn't see any notation that it comes without syringes. There should be a note stating that syringes are extra and/or you have to get them from your vet.

My dog feels younger!
By Carrie on Oct 6, 2020
My 8 yr old boxer has severe arthritis in his hip and knee. The vet recommended this and i wish i would have put him on it sooner. Its made such a big difference in how he feels and he acts like he's 5 years old again. He overall seems happier and wants to play way more than he did before he started on it. The only issue is that chewy pharmacy does take a good bit to process the prescription. In my case it took almost a month after mailing it out and a phone call to the pharmacy to get my order shipped.

Severe Adverse Reaction
By MaryB on Sep 21, 2020
Apparently my dog falls into the small category of severe nausea and vomiting after receiving this medicine. My dog is an American Bull Dog/Boxer mix. After researching a little more, I have found numerous other dog owners that experienced the same reaction in their animals. Though the adequan trial did not list this as an observed reaction, It does list it as an unscientifically reported side effect after the fact. I think they need to amend that to be a more established side effect. Also, I found out this drug got approved after the unnecessary euthanizing of quite a few beagles..... that is incredibly disturbing. I will never give this to my dog again.
