You can either remove the stays for a more flexible cone or keep them in for firmer structure, like when a pet has had eye surgery.

One very important factor to prevent chewing is to purchase the correct size. If the Comfy Cone doesn't go past the dog's snout, the dog will have a better chance of reaching the outer edge and chewing it. For the Comfy Cone to work correctly, the cone has to go past the dogs snout. With the removable plastic stays, it does help with making it harder to chew the cone. It is recommended to supervise your pet when using this cone, as with all medical devices.

What are the measurements of the medium extra long cone?

I originally purchased this for my St. Berxer for after her eye surgery. Unfortunately, her older sister, a playful, Labrador Retriever, thought it was for play and tried to pull it off. I did not end up using this particular collar, but I have saved it for future use. It is sturdy and easier to put onand removed than the one you get from the vet. It also does not come loose and I really liked it. It was worth the money Ispent for it. I recommend this collar.

Didn't fit

This appears to be a well made, flexible cone, but I can't speak to it's effectiveness because it didn't fit. I measured from collar to nose as the directions said,

Size chart way off!

This is a poorly designed E collar IMO. Our Cavalier Spaniel is between sizes where the small long was too small and the medium is to big. The velcro strips are

This is a poorly designed E collar IMO. Our Cavalier Spaniel is between sizes where the small long was too small and the medium is to big. The velcro strips are not in the right place for the little tabs, and the elastic loops around the neckline are on the inside when they should be on the outside. These loops are very rough & hard on sensitive skin and I had to return this item to Chewy. It was a great big FAIL in every way possible!

This is a more managable size for a 9.5 pound maltipoo vs the vet's e-collar

Seemed more comfortable for my girl but it did get a bit hot for her and she needed a break now and again.

This is so heavy

I do not think that this is a good alternative for cats. My cat could not jump or move easily because this cone is so heavy. I would much rather just put the plastic

Could not use.

Looked like such an upgrade from the usual cone, but awkward to use and the lack of transparency made movement harder for my little guy. Used my old clear one.

Dog couldn't see left and right and velcro closure was VERY loud.

Sizing and fit was fine but the fact that it is not clear made it impossible for my dog to see left and right and more importantly, the velcro closure was VERY loud
