Some cats need more time and encouragement before they start enjoying a new food, especially if they’ve been eating dry food only, or a wet food with artificial flavors, corn, wheat or soy. If your cat doesn’t go for American Journey at first, don’t worry as this is totally normal. A little patience goes a long way. Aside from following the recommended transition instructions, here are some tips to help ensure a smooth transition:
- Mix it up with a fork.
- Try a meal topper.
- Don’t leave wet food out for long. Always refrigerate unused portion and follow packaging instructions for storing and discarding.

Healthy but none out of 4 cats will eat it.
This was reviewed as a healthy affordable cat food option that is lower in carbs. Sadly not one of my cats will eat it. We have tried quite a lot of cat foods and they ate them all except this one. They literally left the bowl untouched. I tried mixing in some food they liked but they licked the sauce packet I put on it and as soon as they hit the pate...they stopped and walked away. I did not feed them anything else figuring they would eat it when they realized nothing else was coming but the next morning, their bowls were still full.
Much more healthy than what I have been feeding my cats
All 3 of my cats love both the 3 ounce pate and the minced chicken recipe. Although Emily will sometimes just lick the gravy from the minced recipe. I am glad I found American Journey on "All about cats" I did not realize big name companies put species inappropriate food items in their cans. The price is just a bit more than I was paying for my previous brand but well worth it. My cats do not throw up any more. Yeah !
Mowgli says Heck No
I was excited that I would be able to feed three cats with fewer aluminum cans. The larger cans are almost nonexistent in other brands. The nutrition seemed fine and ingredients looked good. I ordered 4 cases. Bad mistake. Unfortunately, it failed the “Cat scan”. Mama Bear and Mooji ate it because it was there, but they weren’t thrilled about it. Mowgli refused to eat it. At all. He’d look at me like “what’s this cr@p and when are you going to feed me?”. Thankfully Chewy took all the unopened cans back (sorry delivery guy) and will provide a refund. So, Chewy rocks, but American Journey didn’t make the grade.
Too much thickener.
Bought this to fill in with the normal Instinct pate to save some $$. Cats like it and the smell is fine but the texture is more jelly like then meat. Good alternative to those looking for a cheaper grain free and higher protein cat food.
Not a winner in our house
We were looking to save money on cat food, so I was so hopeful that my cat would like this. He’s not a very picky cat, but this food just doesn’t do it for him. He was eating Wellness before we tried switching, and a few other miscellaneous foods, and he’ll happily eat those, but he turns his nose at this and just decided to stop eating altogether until we gave him something else, which he promptly scarfed. This food seems like it would be good. It has a soft texture, a very strong, yet a little weird, chicken-y scent, and the ingredients are pretty good. I’m super bummed he doesn’t like it. I’m hopeful a shelter will take it and that other cats will enjoy it.
It's the only food my cat with Pancreatitis will eat since they stopped selling EVO-95. Since she needs food, this is it for her and I'm very, very happy to have found something she will like and eat so her weight doesn't go down.
Ordered this when our regular brand of canned food was not available. Cats love it. Will continue to purchase.
My cats like it, that’s all that matters!
Finally, a pop top can! That is the part I like. Why this hasn’t happened on all canned foods, I don’t know. It’s such a convenience rather than using a can opener.
Great healthy option - kitties love it!
Idgie and Max both love this food - even better than the higher-priced ones. I'm pretty picky about ingredients and this food rates up there with the best. Canned food makes up the majority of their diets so it's important that it contains everything they need to stay healthy.
Less processed, and cat approved
I was searching for a food that had lower processing, and this one came up in a search. The cats enjoy it, and it makes me feel better, hoping they are getting a better meal
